2019 Jaguar XF Interior Review

Interior: 7.7

The 2019 Jaguar XF looks the part inside. The attractive cabin leaves you swimming in premium materials, and there are lots of customizable styling options. The seats are spacious and comfortable, and no class rival offers more trunk space than the XF. Some competitors do have longer features lists, but the XF’s tech works pretty well.

  • "Top-quality materials extend throughout, giving the interior an appropriately luxurious feel." -- Edmunds
  • "Jaguar has never had any trouble upholstering a cabin, and the XF's is again second to none. There are 11 types of cabin decor and five grades of leather. That's matched on the outside by 17 paint colors and 11 choices for wheels. This should help the Jag stand apart from the crowd of BMW 5 Series and Audi A6s, even if the overall design is conservative." -- Automobile Magazine (2016)
  • "The dashboard is surrounded by a rim that wraps around the interior, creating a cockpit-like feel. All around, high quality material and surfaces abound. Metallic finishes with tactile textures dress panels, and leather is used liberally to wrap protrusions." -- Autotrader (2016)

The XF seats five people and comes standard with Luxtec (Jaguar's synthetic leather upholstery) seats and 10-way adjustable front seats. Leather upholstery, 18- and 20-way adjustable front seats, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel are available.

Up front, the seats are excellent and provide plenty of support. However, some rivals offer more high-end seating options, such as massaging seats. Both rows provide ample head- and legroom for adults to ride comfortably. There are two full sets of LATCH car-seat connectors.

  • "Front and rear headroom are comparable to most in the segment. Plenty of lateral space for all outboard passengers to get cozy. Three adults in the backseat isn't such a bad proposition, at least for a short period of time." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "As good as the XF looks from the outside, slipping into the driver's seat produces another pleasure – luxury. Supremely comfortable seats with visible stitching on the leather edges offer support and power adjustment. As befits a performance car, the seating position is low and precisely aligned with the controls. Thanks to a wheelbase longer than the first generation's, rear passengers benefit from ample legroom, yet the coupelike profile doesn't encroach on headroom, even for tall adults." -- Autotrader (2017)
  • "The XF supplies more space than the XE, and to a large degree this is what you're paying extra for. Up front, comfort is excellent, lacking only a massaging function to achieve perfection. Still, this car feels smaller inside than key competitors." -- New York Daily News (2017)

Interior Features

Standard features in the XF include dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, a rearview camera, emergency brake assist, and the InControl Touch infotainment system with a 10-inch touch screen (8-inch in Sportbrake models), an 11-speaker Meridian sound system, Bluetooth, and HD Radio. Available features include navigation, a 17-speaker Meridian surround-sound system, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and quad-zone automatic climate control.

Available safety upgrades include adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera system, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, driver drowsiness monitoring, blind spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, a head-up display, rear cross traffic alert, park assist, and parking sensors on the front, sides, and rear.

One of the XF sedan's new additions for the 2019 model year is its 10-inch touch screen, which is 2 inches larger than in the wagon and previous sedan models. The InControl system is user-friendly overall, and there are redundant physical controls for audio and climate functions. However, the system trails the competition in some areas like navigation and smartphone connectivity.

  • "The XF's primary infotainment system now uses a 10-inch display. It controls almost all of the Jag's functions aside from climate controls. Standard functions such as the audio and phone are easy to use, but navigation capability and smartphone connectivity are lacking." -- Edmunds
  • "What's most concerning about the Jaguar XF, though, is its technological complexity. Before I drove it anywhere, I spent half an hour setting the car up using the driver information display menus, the various InControl Touch Pro functions, and the owner's manual – and I still wasn't convinced I'd covered all of the bases." -- New York Daily News (2017)
  • "The big InControl Touch Pro system takes center stage, offering most functions through its touch-screen interface. That could be a problem, but the big screen and easy-to-see icons make using it simple." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)

The XF sedan gives you 19.1 cubic feet of trunk space – the highest total in the class. The wide trunk also makes it easy to fit large items. Split-folding rear seats come standard, and a hands-free trunk lid is available.

The XF Sportbrake wagon gives you significantly more cargo space than the sedan body style. It provides 31.7 cubic feet of room behind the rear seats and 69.7 cubic feet with them folded down. A hands-free power liftgate comes standard.

  • "The trunk space is wide and deep, and gooseneck trunklid arms are recessed so as not to impede cargo loading. The pass-through size is average, as are the number and depth of interior nooks." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "… interior storage space is limited, and while the trunk is deep it is also unexpectedly narrow." -- New York Daily News (2017)
