2015 Jaguar XF Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2015 Jaguar XF was new.

Interior: 7.4

Most reviewers appreciate the 2015 Jaguar XF’s attractive interior styling and luxurious materials. They are also pleased with the distinctive design elements in the XF’s cabin, such as the rotary shift knob that rises from the center console and vents that rotate open when you start the engine. The XF has a very large trunk for the class, and most critics think the XF’s front seats are comfortable, but they note that the rear seat has limited headroom. They also point out that the touch-screen infotainment system is complicated and reacts slowly to user inputs.

  • "The cabin is trimmed with the supple leathers and top-quality materials one would expect of a Jaguar while also featuring modern touches like the so-called ‘surprise and delight’ air-conditioning vents, which present a flush dashboard surface until the ignition is switched on, at which point they rotate to the open position." -- Left Lane News
  • "The 2015 Jaguar XF's 5-passenger cabin is airy and plush, with the leather upholstery and wood trim expected in a British luxury vehicle." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The cabin retains much of the old-world charm of Jaguars past, but with a modern interpretation that includes contemporary materials." -- Edmunds
  • "We can't help but point out that the XF model's interior hails from a few years back, and it could benefit from an update stylistically. But the XF still manages to emit an upscale vibe inside, especially when Jaguar's distinctive rotary shift knob rises out of the center console upon ignition." -- AutoTrader (2014)

The 2015 Jaguar XF comes standard with leather upholstery and heated, power-adjustable front seats with memory settings for the driver’s seat. A heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats and sport seats are available. Most critics write that the XF’s front seats are supportive and roomy, though some point out that they don’t offer as much space as the front seats in the Mercedes-Benz E-Class or BMW 5-Series. Reviewers note that the rear seat provides decent legroom, but headroom is limited due to the XF’s sloping roof.

  • "The ergonomic front seats deliver ample support for occupants of all sizes, though 6-footers will find rear-seat headroom slightly restricted by the aggressive curvature of the roof." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "… you're likely to find the seating a little tighter in both the front and rear compared with accommodations in the E-Class and 5 Series. But it's entirely suitable for a true midsize luxury sedan, and the sense of compactness contributes to the Jag's more engaging feel once you're behind the wheel." -- Edmunds
  • "Rear passengers will enjoy adequate legroom. Tall ones, however, may find their hair brushing the XF model's sleek roof." -- AutoTrader (2014)
  • "The [front] seats are comfortable with good support." -- Consumer Guide (2013)

Interior Features

The Jaguar XF has a number of newly standard features for 2015, including front parking sensors, a rearview camera, a 11-speaker Meridian audio system, satellite radio, HD Radio, blind spot monitoring and navigation. Other standard features include rear parking sensors, a moonroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, proximity key, Bluetooth, a USB port and an infotainment system with a 7-inch touch screen. A 17-speaker Meridian audio system is available.

Test drivers say the Jaguar XF’s infotainment system has a small touch screen that reacts slowly to user inputs, and they think there are too many steps to change certain audio, climate and navigation settings. Auto writers note that it seems dated compared with the infotainment systems in some of the XF’s rivals. However, a few point out that Jaguar keeps some audio and climate controls separate from the touch screen, which makes them a bit more user-friendly.

  • "Jaguar's infotainment interface trails competing systems with its small display, plain graphics, slightly delayed responses and over-complicated menu structure." -- Edmunds
  • "Pragmatically speaking, the Jag makes life easier by implementing knobs and buttons for basic climate and audio settings instead of potentially frustrating all-touch controls (though the touch-based system used for navigation and some climate functions could benefit from more speed)." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "However, the 7-in touchscreen is a disappointment for this segment. Despite recent upgrades, it's still relatively small, and its software feels behind the times relative to, say, Audi's MMI system or BMW's iDrive." -- AutoTrader (2014)
  • "However, instead of control-knob interface for most audio and climate functions (a la Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz), Jaguar uses a touchscreen system that can be a real driver distraction. Even simple tasks can require quite a few ‘virtual button’ presses and drilling down through several menu screens that can be slow to respond to user input." -- Consumer Guide (2013)

The 2015 Jaguar XF’s 17.7-cubic-foot trunk is one of the biggest in the class. However, some test drivers report that the wheel arches take up a lot of space, and that the trunk’s small opening makes it hard to load large items.

  • "At 17.7 cubic feet, the XF's trunk has impressive cargo capacity." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Cargo capacity, on the other hand, is quite generous for a midsize luxury sedan at 17.7 cubic feet." -- Edmunds
  • "The 17.7-cubic-foot trunk is among the largest in the class, but bulky rear wheel arches mean usable space is somewhat less. The trunk opening isn't that large, so loading bulky items is difficult, if not impossible." -- Consumer Guide (2013)
