2014 Jaguar XF Review

The 2014 Jaguar XF boasts good performance thanks to a powerful engine lineup and nimble handling. Still, its minimal rear-seat headroom and subpar infotainment system make it one of the lowest ranking cars in its class.

Pros & Cons

  • Strong V6 and V8 engines
  • Nimble handling
  • Handsome, well-built interior
  • Large trunk
  • Below-average reliability
  • Slow, confusing infotainment system
  • Limited rear-seat headroom
  • Poor power delivery in the four-cylinder

2014 Jaguar XF Overview

Is the 2014 Jaguar XF a Good Used Car?

The XF is a capable luxury midsize car, but it is not worth the investment. It has well-weighted steering and agile handling, but some rivals perform well and have a higher reliability score, a more spacious interior, and a more user-friendly infotainment system.

Used Jaguar XF Performance and Interior

The base 2014 Jaguar XF 2.0T comes with a turbocharged 240-horsepower four-cylinder engine. This is ample power, but the XF really ups the game with much more powerful engines in its higher trims. These include a supercharged 340-horsepower V6 in the XF 3.0, the XF Supercharged's 470-horsepower V8, the XFR's 510-horsepower V8, and the 550-horsepower V8 in the XFR-S. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and some XF 3.0 models come with all-wheel drive. All models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The XF has a good balance of agile handling and controlled ride quality, which makes this sedan a pleasure to drive. Steering is good, but road feel could be better. The XF delivers between 15 and 19 mpg in the city and 23 and 30 mpg on the highway, which are good figures for the class.

The 2014 Jaguar XF’s interior is full of high-quality materials that are soft to the touch. There is plenty of room in the front, but six-footers will find the back seats have insufficient headroom. The XF has one of the largest trunks in the class, but its small trunk opening can make loading items difficult. The standard infotainment system is outdated compared to rivals like the BMW 5 Series. A small screen and hard-to-use audio and climate controls further detract from the system. There are two sets of LATCH car-seat connectors on the rear outboard seats and an upper tether anchor on the middle seat.

All models come with leather seats, six-way power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, a 7-inch touch screen, Bluetooth, a 10-speaker audio system, a USB port, and a moonroof. Some models come with premium leather seats, cooled front seats, a navigation system, an 18-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, sport seats, and a 17-speaker Meridian premium audio system.

Should I Consider Another Used XF?

The 2014 Jaguar XF is part of a generation that started in 2009 and includes the 2015 model year. Significant changes were made to the XF's engine lineup for 2013, including the addition of a new supercharged V6 and four-cylinder. There were no major changes for the 2014 model year. The 2015 XF gained a standard navigation system, a rearview camera, and a Meridian audio system. Two new Portfolio and Sport trims were also added. Choosing a 2013 model will save you money and still get you a similar vehicle to the 2014 and 2015 models.

Which Used Jaguar XF Is Right for Me?

The 2014 Jaguar XF comes in five trims: XF 2.0T, XF 3.0, XF Supercharged, XFR, and XFR-S. The base trim has enough features for most luxury shoppers, but its four-cylinder engine does not have the best power delivery. Step up the XF 3.0 to get a powerful V6 engine. Some XF 3.0 models even come with all-wheel drive.

You may also want to consider a certified pre-owned XF. Jaguar extends the original new-car warranty to seven years or 100,000 miles. Every CPO Jaguar must pass a 165-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Jaguar warranty page carefully.

2014 Jaguar XF and Other Cars to Consider

Which Is Better: 2014 Jaguar XF or 2014 Lexus GS?

The 2014 Lexus GS is a luxury midsize car that does many things well. It has a perfect reliability score of five out of five, a luxurious interior, an enjoyable ride, and lower ownership costs than the XF. Like the Jaguar, this Lexus' infotainment system can be tricky to use. The XF also has more trunk room. Nonetheless, the GS is the better-rounded option.

Which Is Better: 2014 Jaguar XF or 2014 BMW 5 Series?

The 2014 BMW 5 Series has an easy-to-use infotainment system, sufficient second-row headroom, and abundant power in its base engine (qualities not found in the XF). Both cars have the same reliability and ownership costs, but the XF has a larger trunk and standard leather seats (unlike the BMW). Still, these positives don't outweigh those of the BMW; go for the 5 Series.

Which Is Better: 2014 Jaguar XF or 2014 Audi A6?

Like the XF, the 2014 Audi A6 offers inadequate base engine power. It has one of the nicest interiors in the class, though rear thigh support could be better. The cars have similar interior measurements, but the XF has a bigger cargo area. The Audi has a slightly higher reliability rating and lower ownership costs. The A6 is the better car overall.
