2009 Jaguar XF Review

When the Jaguar XF made its debut in 2009, reviewers agreed that Jaguar introduced an undeniably modern luxury sedan. The XF is powerful and filled with high-tech toys.

Pros & Cons

  • Powerful V8 engine
  • Elegant interior with numerous standard features
  • Agile handling
  • No all-wheel drive option

2009 Jaguar XF Overview

The 2009 Jaguar XF offers two powerful V8 engine options that should excite driving enthusiasts. When it was new, reviewers raved about the XF’s performance, noting that the standard V8 engine generates plenty of power, but that the supercharged V8 in the XF Supercharged model provides heart-pounding acceleration. As far as handling, the XF also impressed reviewers, who said the XF performs like a smaller sports sedan. However, reviewers would have liked to see an all-wheel drive option for the XF, which is a common option on rival 2009 large cars.

The 2009 XF gets 16/25 mpg city/highway, which is slightly better than V8-powered rivals like the 2009 BMW 550i and 2009 Mercedes-Benz E550, but also a bit lower than the 2009 Lexus GS 460. The XF was never crash tested, but it comes with a competitive list of safety features, which include six airbags, stability control and rear parking sensors.

Inside, reviewers thought the XF was modern and luxurious, noting the high-quality wood and metal trim. Standard features include a sunroof, push-button start, leather, dual-zone climate control, power front seats, rear parking sensors and Bluetooth. Opting for the Premium Luxury trim adds heated front seats, navigation and larger wheels.

Critics agreed that the XF’s front seats were comfortable, though other large cars offer more back-seat passenger space. The XF has one of the largest trunks in the class, however. Unlike many competitors, the 2009 XF has a touch-screen infotainment system. While most test drivers said that it’s less confusing than BMW’s iDrive, the Jaguar system still isn’t the most user-friendly.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2009 Audi A6 offers strong safety scores, which should appeal to a number of used car shoppers. Additionally, reviewers loved the 3.0T trim, which gives the A6 a powerful supercharged V6 and Quattro all-wheel drive. Although it has less trunk space than the XF, reviewers agreed that the A6 has one of the nicest interiors in the class.

If you’re seeking iconic luxury, the 2009 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is worth a look. Praised by reviewers for its elegant, well-built interior, the E-Class also carries good safety scores. The V6-powered E350 can’t match the XF in terms of performance, but E550 models come with a V8 engine that has a competitive amount of power. Also, unlike the XF, you can get the E-Class with all-wheel drive.
