Which Used Make Jaguar XE Is Right for Me?

The 2017 Jaguar XE comes in four trim levels: XE, Premium, Prestige, and R-Sport. Most drivers will be pleased with the base XE. Its turbocharged four-cylinder engine is powerful enough for everyday drive. The base model also comes with niceties likes leatherette upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, push-button start, a moonroof, an 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system, Bluetooth, a USB port, HD Radio, dual-zone automatic climate control, and alloy wheels.

When the XE was new, its available turbodiesel engine was available in the base trim. To get a model with the available V6 engine, however, you'll have to opt for the Premium trim or higher, which adds a rearview camera and an 11-speaker premium audio system. The Prestige trim gives you leather upholstery and heated front seats. The R-Sport trim comes with a performance suspension and sport seats, as well as lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring.

What Does Jaguar's Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Cover?

Jaguar offers a certified pre-owned program for vehicles five years old or less and with fewer than 60,000 miles. Eligibility is determined by the vehicle’s initial sale date. For its certified pre-owned vehicles, Jaguar extends the original new-car warranty to seven years or 100,000 miles. Every CPO Jaguar must pass a 165-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing, roadside assistance, and trip interruption benefits may be available, so read the Jaguar warranty page carefully.

Jaguar has a good CPO program compared to other luxury automakers, but according to our analysis, brands such as Volvo and Lexus have better ones.

2017 Jaguar XE Versus the Competition

Which Is Better: 2017 Jaguar XE or 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?

The 2017 Mercedes C-Class has a plush ride, one of the most luxurious cabins in the class, and a powerful lineup of engines. On the flip side, the XE has nimbler handling and an easier-to-use infotainment system than the C-Class. A low predicted reliability rating and high ownership costs keep this Benz in the bottom half of our luxury small car rankings along with the Jaguar XE. Buy the Mercedes if you want a richer cabin, you can spend more, and you can overlook the reliability and infotainment issues. Get the Jag if you want a sportier drive and you're on a tighter budget.

Which Is Better: 2017 Jaguar XE or 2017 BMW 3 Series?

Like the XE, the 2017 BMW 3 Series has plenty of available engine power and a thrilling-yet-comfortable ride. However, the 3 Series has a far more robust engine option with its high-performance M3 trim. The BMW’s cabin is filled with upscale materials, and it features a more modern and easier-to-use infotainment system. The 3-Series is the winner here.

Which Is Better: 2017 Jaguar XE or 2017 Audi A4?

The 2017 Audi A4 ranks exceptionally well on account of its winning combination of luxury and performance. It delivers an athletic ride, precise steering, and agile handling. Yet, it still remains comfortable over bumps in the road. The posh cabin comes with standard leather upholstery, and its user-friendly infotainment system features Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. You're better off with the A4.

How Does the 2017 Jaguar XE Drive?

A 240-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine powers the 2017 Jaguar XE. However, some models feature a 180-horsepower turbodiesel four-cylinder or a 340-horsepower supercharged V6. Every engine is paired with a refined eight-speed automatic transmission.

The base turbo-four has adequate acceleration, but those looking for something more invigorating will want to opt for the V6 engine, which is available in all but the base trim. The turbodiesel isn’t as powerful as the other engines, but it will save you some money at the pump.

It may not be as athletic as the Jaguar F-Type, but the Jaguar XE has some of the best driving dynamics in the class. Its suspension is just firm enough for sharp, engaging handling and just soft enough to provide a comfortable ride over both smooth and rough roads. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available.

Does the 2017 Jaguar XE Get Good Gas Mileage?

With the base engine and the available V6, the 2017 Jaguar XE delivers 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, which is a little low for the class. Opt for the available turbodiesel engine, and the XE's estimates jump to 32/42 mpg city/highway, which are some of the highest ratings in the class.

The 2017 Jaguar XE seats five in two rows. The front seats have a good amount of space for both the driver and passenger, but taller occupants may feel too snug in the rear seats. The XE's cabin is attractive, but the use of hard plastics makes it less lavish than the cabins of many rivals. Leatherette upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and power-adjustable front seats are standard. Some models also come with leather upholstery, heated front seats, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and sport front seats.

How Many Car Seats Fit in the 2017 Jaguar XE?

The 2017 XE has two sets of LATCH car-seat connectors on the rear outboard seats and an upper tether on the rear middle seat.

2017 Jaguar XE Features

Standard features include an 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system, a six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, a USB port, and HD Radio. Some models have a 10.2-inch touch-screen infotainment system, an 11-speaker premium audio system, satellite radio, voice control, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. The standard infotainment is user-friendly, but the upgraded infotainment system is much more intuitive.
