2020 Jaguar F-Type Interior

2020 Jaguar F-Type Interior Review

Interior: 5.9

The 2020 Jaguar F-Type's cabin is attractive and modern. It emphasizes sport over luxury, as evidenced by the well-bolstered sport seats and minimalistic center stack. While this interior design may work for performance-minded folks, the F-Type should be one of the last cars to consider if you want a truly opulent and well-constructed cabin. This Jaguar's technology includes a decent infotainment system that comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but accessing some functions can be a chore. Coupe models have an above-average amount of trunk space.

  • "The Jaguar F-Type gets new, thinner seats this year to help increase room for tall drivers. There's a wide console between the driver and passenger, with a prominent grab handle for the passenger's left hand in case there's any doubt about this car's true purpose. Yes, as befitting a Jaguar, it's luxurious, too. The materials inside are all first-rate and assembly is beyond reproach, and we love the gimmick of the center vents rising from the dash." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "Tailored leather interior, punctuated with suede cloth accents, oozes British class. Pleasant design and satisfying heft to buttons, switches and knobs, although plastic steering wheel buttons feel cheap. Not quite as well-built as German rivals; we noticed a few squeaks here and there." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "While it's generally civilized, the car always remains a pretty tough proposition – a little noisy, a little uncomfortable, and a little more than you bargained for." -- Automobile Magazine (2015)

The two-seat F-Type comes standard with leather and suede sport seats and 12-way power adjustments. As is typical of a low-slung sports car, its seats have a generous amount of bolstering and are low to the ground. This results in excellent support for spirited driving but also creates a challenging space for tall travelers to climb into and stretch out. Visibility out the rear is limited.

Available seating upgrades include premium leather, heated and cooled front seats, and a heated steering wheel.

  • "The 12-way power seats have firm but generous padding, with the kind of lateral support needed for spirited driving. While the seats aren't ideal for long road trips, they're adequately comfortable over a couple hundred miles." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "The driver-focused, 2-person cockpit of the 2017 Jaguar F-Type separates the passenger and driver with a wide console, and provides a left-hand grip for the passenger. It isn't the most spacious place, but even the coupe offers good headroom for taller drivers and adequate legroom, too." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)
  • "From an accommodations standpoint, taller folks might find the car a bit awkward to get into due to the low seating position and rather wide doorsills, but very comfortable once situated. There's not a huge amount of head or leg room, though all but the tallest drivers should fit. Most surfaces are padded, and while the overall look is more business-like than flashy, materials are top-notch." -- Consumer Guide (2015)

Interior Features

The infotainment system isn't as state of the art as some rivals', but it has relatively clear-cut menus and nice graphics. For 2020, the system gets a serious usability boost with the newly standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Some audio and climate settings can only be adjusted via the touch screen and some adjustments require multiple steps.

Standard features include a 10-inch touch screen, a 10-speaker Meridian sound system, a navigation system, HD Radio, satellite radio, Bluetooth, and a USB port. You can connect to your smartphone using Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, or Jaguar's InControl Apps. Additional standard features include push-button start, automatic climate control, a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, automatic emergency braking, a driver condition monitor, rain-sensing windshield wipers, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, and an adaptive speed limiter that hampers speeding when activated.

Available features include a 12-speaker Meridian surround-sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, proximity keyless entry, parallel park assist, automatic high-beam headlights, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. In coupe models, you can add a fixed panoramic glass roof or a carbon fiber roof.

  • "For 2019, the F-Type's infotainment system — significantly upgraded last year — is further refined with a 10-inch touchscreen and improved graphics. … The base Meridian sound system has decent sound quality but left us wanting more volume, even at its max setting. (We'd opt for the upgraded system.) Selecting a destination in the navigation screen is relatively easy, and the center display makes for easy viewing as you drive along. -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "The dashboard layout is a mixed bag. ... Audio controls are easy enough to figure out and reach, but most adjustments are done through a touch screen — which inevitably demands additional steps to perform simple functions — and the on/volume knob is inconveniently located on the console. Climate controls consist of simple rotary knobs for temperature and fan speed, but mode is adjusted by hitting a button that takes you to a page on the touch screen, from which you then select which outlets are activated. This last is overly tedious, though it does allow you to select lower, dash, and defrost settings, where usually you can't have defrost and dash together." -- Consumer Guide (2015)
  • "The cabin is an equally stylish place. … While the rest of the interior feels suitably luxurious, the plastic-adorned home of the climate controls, infotainment and vehicle systems is decidedly a letdown." -- Autoblog (2015)

Trunk space in the F-Type coupe is decent, but in-cabin storage is minimal. The coupe has 10.9 cubic feet of trunk space with the cargo space cover and 14.4 cubic feet without the cover. The convertible has 7.3 cubic feet. A power trunk lid is available.

  • "The coupe's trunk space measures 14.4 cubic feet; a couple of golf bags should fit. The convertible's luggage area is only 7.3 cubic feet." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Interior storage is sparse, even for the class. There's a small netted area between and behind the seats that's hard to reach, slim door pockets, and cupholders that are average in width but shallow. Glovebox is only big enough for an owner's manual, and the center console is slim and shallow." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "Interior storage is a bit better than in some sports cars, though no match for your average sedan. There's a modest glovebox, a tiny console box …, two covered cupholders, a hard-to-reach bin between the seat backs, and small map pockets in the doors. Though the opening to the cargo area in back is quite narrow, space under the hatch lid is impressive for a sports car, and Jaguar says two sets of golf clubs will fit inside. Furthermore, there's a deep well under the floor that's great for hiding items from prying eyes." -- Consumer Guide (2015)
