2015 Jaguar F-Type Review

The 2015 Jaguar F-Type has agile handling, an above-average reliability score, and an attractive interior. However, hard plastics in the cabin detract from its score.

Pros & Cons

  • High-performance engines
  • Outstanding handling
  • Good fuel economy

  • Awkward cargo area
  • More complicated infotainment settings than rivals

2015 Jaguar F-Type Overview

Is the 2015 Jaguar F-Type a Good Used Car?

The F-Type is a good choice in the luxury sports car class. While its performance isn’t the best in its segment, its quick acceleration and precise steering don't disappoint. It falls short in our rankings, however, due to its awkwardly shaped cargo area and complicated infotainment settings.

Used 2015 Jaguar F-Type Performance and Interior

The F-Type has multiple powertrains available. Base and F-Type S models (coupe and convertible) come with 340- or 380-horsepower V6 engines and 332 or 339 pound-feet of torque. F-Type V8 S convertible and R Coupe models are even more muscular, with V8 engines that range from 495 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque to a roaring 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque. The F-Type is fun to drive, and handling and steering are excellent. The F-Type’s standard suspension setup can be stiff (typical of the class), but an available adaptive suspension improves handling control on tight curves. An active sport exhaust is also available for a louder racecar-like sound. The F-Type’s brakes deliver excellent stopping power, especially in models with carbon-ceramic brakes. All models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and rear-wheel drive is standard. The F-Type gets good gas mileage of up to 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, thanks in part to its standard stop-start engine.

The F-Type seats two with mostly top-notch materials and sporty interior accents, such as a grab handle on the center console. However, there’s cheap plastic on the center stack, and the standard infotainment system makes you click through several menus to get to audio and climate controls. Rivals’ systems are more user-friendly. The seats have sufficient head- and legroom for most passengers, but they aren’t padded well and can become uncomfortable over long drives. Cargo space is oddly shaped, which limits its usefulness.

The F-Type has a long list of standard features, including leather and suede sport seats, an 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system, a 10-speaker Meridian audio system, a navigation system, keyless entry, push-button start, a USB port, and Bluetooth. Available features include heated seats, a heated steering wheel, satellite radio, HD Radio, dual-zone climate control, and a 12-speaker Meridian audio system.

How Safe Is the F-Type?

The F-Type didn’t undergo Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or National Traffic Safety Administration crash tests, which is typical of luxury and sports cars due to the high costs involved.

Available advanced safety features in the F-Type include front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, automatic high beams, adaptive headlights, rear cross traffic alert, and blind spot monitoring.

Should I Consider Another Used F-Type?

The 2015 F-Type is the second year of the model’s first generation. The 2015 model offers a coupe variant in the first two trims and introduced the F-Type R Coupe trim. If these styles are important to you, you should shop from 2015 on. If you’re content with a standard convertible model, opting for the 2014 F-Type will get you the same features for less money.

Which Used F-Type Is Right for Me?

The F-Type base trim and F-Type S models come as a coupe or a convertible. F-Type V8 S convertible and R Coupe models only come in one body style. All trim levels come with rear-wheel drive. The base trim has adequate acceleration and power, which should satisfy the average car buyer. If you have a need for more speed, either V8 engine will do the trick.

2015 Jaguar F-Type and Other Cars to Consider

Which Is Better: 2015 Jaguar F-Type or 2015 Chevrolet Corvette?

Just like the F-Type, the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette has nimble handling and powerful V8 engines. It exceeds the F-Type with ample cargo space and a higher-quality cabin. However, the F-Type has slightly higher reliability and better fuel economy ratings. Though both cars have their positives, the base Corvette comes at a lower price, making it the better choice.

Which Is Better: 2015 Jaguar F-Type or 2015 Porsche Boxster?

The 2015 Porsche Boxster places high in the luxury sports car segment. It’s a spirited performer with a high-quality interior and superb reliability scores. The F-Pace has more horsepower in its engines, but that doesn’t mean the Boxster is struggling to keep up. Both cars come with a small cargo capacity, but the Boxster will cost you less in the long run. It’s the better option.
