2020 Jaguar F-Pace Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 7.2

The 2020 Jaguar F-Pace is one of the roomier SUVs in the segment, offering a large cargo bay and ample space for front- and rear-seat passengers to stretch out and enjoy the comfortable, supportive seats. That said, the cabin materials don’t quite meet the standard of luxury found in rivals. Additionally, the SUV’s design inhibits rearward visibility and makes it difficult for some people to enter and exit the vehicle.

  • "… the driver's vision is hampered by wide B-pillars and a narrow rear window. And some of the plastics used, such as those on the door tops, seem a touch down-market." -- Kelley Blue Book (2019)
  • The F-Pace's interior may appear delightful, but those familiar with Jags might notice the thinner padding and surfaces that lack the elegance and density of other models. The aesthetics are good, but tactile quality falls a little short." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "… the F-Pace's cabin fittings fall short of expectations. The entire dashboard, which is shared with the new entry-level XE model, fails to convey any semblance of futuristic style or to evoke notions of traditional handcrafted workmanship. Controls are laid out in an utterly conventional manner and the cabin is executed with materials that don't move the needle into favorable territory." -- New York Daily News (2017)

Seating

The F-Pace seats five and comes with synthetic leather upholstery and power-adjustable front seats. Genuine leather upholstery, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, reclining rear seats, front sport seats, and a heated steering wheel are available.

The F-Pace is one of the few luxury compact SUVs with adult-friendly space in both rows. The standard panoramic sunroof makes the cabin feel spacious and airy, and all seats are comfortable and supportive. Unfortunately, the SUV’s sloped doors may require taller occupants to duck before entering the vehicle. The small back window also limits rearward visibility.

For attaching child safety seats, the F-Pace has two complete sets of LATCH hardware for the rear outboard seats and an additional tether anchor for the rear middle seat.

  • The driving position is comfortable, with a good amount of adjustability, and it feels lower in the vehicle, enhancing the F-Pace's sportiness. The rear seat has plenty of headroom and can accommodate three adults. However, getting in and out requires taller passengers to duck in, and shorter passengers will encounter a high sill to step over." -- Edmunds
  • Five adults fit comfortably with the just-right stadium-seating second row, and the feeling of roominess is enhanced by one of the biggest panorama roofs in the business. Unfortunately visibility is compromised for the driver by a thick B-pillar and a narrow view through the rear window." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "… its back seat easily accommodates occupants more than six feet tall, with excellent rear legroom, ample foot space under the front seats, and, considering the standard panoramic sunroof, surprisingly reasonable headroom." -- Car and Driver (2017)

Interior Features

The F-Pace’s infotainment system is easy to operate, and its menu structure is intuitive. While the system generally works well, it doesn’t consistently respond to user inputs. Many rival systems are quicker and less distracting for drivers. Luckily, newly standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto provide an alternative to the standard setup, allowing you to access many smartphone functions through the vehicle’s touch screen.

Standard features include a sliding panoramic roof, dual-zone automatic climate control, and the Touch Pro infotainment system with a 10-inch touch screen, Bluetooth, an 11-speaker Meridian audio system, HD Radio, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and InControl Apps. Standard driver assistance features include rain-sensing windshield wipers, a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, low-speed automatic emergency braking, driver drowsiness monitoring, and lane keep assist.

Available features include quad-zone automatic climate control, an upgraded infotainment system, navigation, a 17-speaker Meridian audio system, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and an activity key, which is a waterproof wristband that you can use to access your vehicle. There is also a host of optional safety features, including a head-up display, traffic sign recognition, an adaptive speed limiter, high-speed automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, parallel and perpendicular park assist, a 360-degree parking camera system, and rear cross traffic alert.

  • Our F-Pace's technological strengths rest on its well-sorted driver aids, but it falls short of the competition. Jaguar's infotainment system looks good, but its behavior generally doesn't live up to its looks: It can prove unresponsive and take your attention off the road, and the navigation system is less functional and easy to use than competitors. Fortunately, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard and are much better connectivity solutions." -- Edmunds
  • "… Jaguar's new InControl Touch Pro … system's lightning fast response time, sharp graphics, and range of ever-growing apps put the older system to shame." -- Automobile Magazine (2017)

Cargo

The F-Pace has one of the largest cargo capacities in the class, with 33.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 63.5 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. If you opt for the full-size spare tire, however, cargo capacity is reduced. Loading items is easy, thanks to the cargo area’s wide opening and easily foldable back row. A power liftgate comes standard; a hands-free liftgate is available.

  • "The F-Pace proves that a sport-leaning SUV can also be surprisingly practical. Highlights include a generous cargo area (beware the full-size spare erodes cargo volume) and a towing capacity of nearly 5,300 pounds (more than most competitors). If you don't opt for the full-size spare, you get one of the roomiest cargo spaces in the segment at 33.5 square feet." -- Edmunds
  • "The standard power rear tailgate opens wide to offer a best-in-class, 33.5-cubic-foot capacity, which expands to almost twice that with the rear seatbacks folded down." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "… the F-Pace offers plenty of room for four tall people, and the trunk is one of the biggest in its class." -- New York Daily News (2017)
