2019 Jaguar F-Pace Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 7.3

The 2019 Jaguar F-Pace feels more spacious inside than many other small SUVs. However, its interior quality doesn’t live up to luxury-vehicle standards in a few places, and the infotainment system draws mixed reviews. On the bright side, both rows of seats are supportive and roomy, and cargo space is good for the class.

  • "However, the driver's vision is hampered by wide B-pillars and a narrow rear window. And some of the plastics used, such as those on the door tops, seem a touch down-market." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • The F-Pace's interior may appear delightful, but those familiar with Jags might notice the thinner padding and surfaces that lack the elegance and density of other models. The aesthetics are good, but tactile quality falls a little short." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "Unfortunately, the F-Pace's cabin fittings fall short of expectations. The entire dashboard, which is shared with the new entry-level XE model, fails to convey any semblance of futuristic style or to evoke notions of traditional handcrafted workmanship. Controls are laid out in an utterly conventional manner and the cabin is executed with materials that don't move the needle into favorable territory." -- New York Daily News (2017)

Seating

The F-Pace seats five and comes with Luxtec leatherette upholstery and power-adjustable front seats. Leather upholstery, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, reclining rear seats, front sport seats, and a heated steering wheel are available.

Unlike some small crossovers, this Jaguar can fit adult passengers in both rows without any problems. In fact, the rear seats have enough space for adults to ride three across. No matter where you sit, the seats are comfortable and supportive, but the driver's visibility is limited by thick roof pillars.

There are two complete sets of LATCH child-seat hardware and an additional tether anchor for the middle seat. It doesn't take much effort to find and use the anchors, and there's enough room to install two or three car seats.

  • Five adults fit comfortably with the just-right stadium-seating second row, and the feeling of roominess is enhanced by one of the biggest panorama roofs in the business. Unfortunately visibility is compromised for the driver by a thick B-pillar and a narrow view through the rear window." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "The front seats are highly configurable with adjustable lateral and lumbar support. The cushions are firm but not uncomfortably hard and will sustain you for hours on end in the saddle. The rear seatbacks are set at a good angle with similar cushion support." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "… its back seat easily accommodates occupants more than six feet tall, with excellent rear legroom, ample foot space under the front seats, and, considering the standard panoramic sunroof, surprisingly reasonable headroom." -- Car and Driver (2017)

Interior Features

Standard features in the F-Pace include a sliding panoramic roof, dual-zone automatic climate control, and the InControl Touch Pro infotainment system with a 10-inch touch screen, Bluetooth, an 11-speaker Meridian audio system, and HD Radio. Standard driver assistance features include rain-sensing windshield wipers, a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, low-speed automatic emergency braking, driver drowsiness monitoring, and lane keep assist.

The F-Pace's infotainment system generally works well. The intuitive interface makes it easy to find the menus and settings you need, but a closer inspection reveals a few shortcomings. It doesn't always pair easily with a smartphone, and the navigation system's address-entry procedure feels unnecessarily complex.

Available features include an activity key, quad-zone automatic climate control, an upgraded infotainment system with navigation, a 17-speaker Meridian audio system, satellite radio, smartphone integration, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. Safety options include a head-up display, traffic sign recognition, an adaptive speed limiter, high-speed automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, parallel and perpendicular park assist, a 360-degree parking camera, and rear cross traffic alert.

  • The interface is nice and easy to navigate, but the system fails to provide consistent control to a smartphone. Songs are missing, commands are unresponsive, and sometimes songs are repeated. Better to initiate playback from the device. Bluetooth pairs quickly and works as it should." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "If there's one option to seriously consider on its own, it's Jaguar's new InControl Touch Pro with its 10.2-inch display screen. … the system's lightning fast response time, sharp graphics, and range of ever-growing apps put the older system to shame." -- Automobile Magazine (2017)

Cargo

The F-Pace provides one of the largest cargo holds in the class, with 33.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 63.5 cubic feet overall. The cargo hold has a wide opening, making it easy to load most items. A power liftgate comes standard, and a hands-free liftgate is available.

  • "The standard power rear tailgate opens wide to offer a best-in-class, 33.5-cubic-foot capacity, which expands to almost twice that with the rear seatbacks folded down." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "With 33.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, the F-Pace is one of the roomiest in the compact luxury SUV segment. The rear seats easily fold forward and nearly flat, and sliding tie-down points are solid and aesthetically pleasing." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "Jaguar positions the new F-Pace against luxury SUVs such as the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class. Though these vehicles are on the smaller side of the scale, the F-Pace offers plenty of room for four tall people, and the trunk is one of the biggest in its class." -- New York Daily News (2017)
