2017 Jaguar F-Pace Overview

Is the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace a Good Used SUV?

The 2017 Jaguar F-Pace is a good choice among luxury compact SUVs. It’s both sporty and practical, with precise steering, athletic handling, and a relatively pleasant ride. It also has expansive cargo and passenger areas. That said, the F-Pace's standard diesel engine is slow to accelerate. Unless you want the diesel engine’s better fuel efficiency, shop for models with the V6 engine. Also, the Jaguar's standard 8-inch infotainment system lacks the crisp graphics and quick response times of the available 10.2-inch infotainment system.

Which Used Jaguar F-Pace Model Is Right for Me?

The 2017 Jaguar F-Pace comes in six trim levels: base, Premium, Prestige, R-Sport, S, and First Edition. The base F-Pace comes with a panoramic sunroof, a heated rear windshield, a power liftgate, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated side mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The base model’s cabin also features power-adjustable front seats, leatherette upholstery, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The F-Pace also has plenty of tech features, including an infotainment system with an 8-inch touch-screen, an 11-speaker Meridian audio system, Bluetooth, HD Radio, and a USB port. On the downside, this Jaguar’s lack of standard driver assistance features is disappointing for a vehicle at this price point.

The Premium trim doesn't come with enough features to justify the price increase, but shoppers with a little more money to spare should consider the Prestige and R-Sport trim levels. The Prestige trim adds comfort features like leather upholstery and heated front seats. The R-Sport trim comes with a host of driver assistance features, including blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.

A 180-horsepower turbocharged diesel four-cylinder comes standard in the base, Premium, Prestige, and R-Sport trims. Some of these models come equipped with an available 340-horsepower V6 instead of the turbodiesel engine. Those looking to get the most horsepower out of the F-Pace will have to opt for the sport-tuned S or First Edition trims. They come with a supercharged 380-horsepower 3.0-liter V6. Jaguar sold only 275 First Edition models in the United States, so the chances of getting your hands on one might be next to impossible.

Quite a few packages were also available when the F-Pace was new, so some models may come with more than their standard features.

What Does Jaguar's Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Cover?

Jaguar offers a certified pre-owned program for vehicles five years old or less and with fewer than 60,000 miles. Eligibility is determined by the vehicle’s initial sale date. For its certified pre-owned vehicles, Jaguar extends the original new-car warranty to seven years or 100,000 miles. Every CPO Jaguar must pass a 165-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing, roadside assistance, and trip interruption benefits may be available, so read the Jaguar warranty page carefully.

Jaguar has a good CPO program compared to other luxury automakers, but according to our analysis, brands such as Volvo and Lexus have better ones.

Some models come with a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, lane keep assist, a driver drowsiness monitor, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, pre-collision braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree parking camera, and traffic sign recognition. The intelligent speed limiter system is also available, which detects speed limits and displays them to the driver.

2017 Jaguar F-Pace Versus the Competition

Which Is Better: 2017 Jaguar F-Pace or 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC?

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC's strength lies in its interior refinement, which is highlighted by elegant cabin styling and an abundant list of standard safety features. While the GLC is focused on delivering a well-mannered ride, the F-Pace is tuned more for agility. Both vehicles have good predicted reliability ratings, but the F-Pace finishes slightly higher in our rankings and offers more cargo space. Choosing between the two ultimately comes down to what you prefer: the athleticism of the F-Pace, or the top-notch luxury of the GLC.

Which Is Better: 2017 Jaguar F-Pace or 2017 Porsche Macan?

In terms of performance, the 2017 Porsche Macan is one of the F-Pace's closest competitors. Both vehicles have sports-car-like handling and standard all-wheel drive, but the Macan comes with a stronger base engine. The Porsche also features a richer cabin, a few advanced safety features in the base trim (none are standard in the Jaguar), and a slightly higher predicted reliability rating. However, the F-Pace has lower ownership costs, better fuel economy estimates, and a larger cargo area. Both luxury compact SUVs have similar rankings, so choose the model that best matches your budget. The Porsche can run significantly higher in price.

2017 F-Pace Performance

How Does the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace Drive?

The 2017 Jaguar F-Pace comes standard with a 180-horsepower turbodiesel four-cylinder engine. The base engine is the most fuel-efficient option in the lineup, but it's also the slowest to accelerate. For more power, look for a V6-powered model. The available supercharged V6 engine produces 340 horsepower in all but the S and First Edition trims, which come with a 380-horsepower variant. While the base engine's zero-to-60 time is 8.2 seconds, the 340-horsepower V6 and 380-horsepower V6 accelerate in 5.4 and 5.1 seconds, respectively. All models come with a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission.

The F-Pace has similar driving dynamics to the Jaguar F-Type, including spry handling and responsive steering. All-wheel drive comes standard in the F-Pace, but this Jag drives like a rear-wheel-drive vehicle most of the time, which makes cornering more fun. Once road conditions warrant all-wheel drive, the system kicks in. This gives the F-Type great traction over slick and bumpy roads. The F-Pace's ride is fairly comfortable, but it may be too firm for some drivers.

Does the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace Get Good Gas Mileage?

The base turbodiesel engine makes up for its feeble acceleration with excellent fuel economy numbers. It delivers 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. Models with a V6 engine drop to 18/23 mpg city/highway.

2017 Jaguar F-Pace Towing Capacity

The 2017 Jaguar F-Pace can tow up 5,290 pounds.

2017 F-Pace Interior

How Many People Does the 2017 F-Pace Seat?

The 2017 Jaguar F-Pace seats five in two rows. Although the interior is plain, its seats are comfortable and supportive. There's also enough space for adults in both rows. Leatherette upholstery and power-adjustable front seats are standard, but some models may come with leather upholstery, heated and/or ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and sport front seats.

How Many Car Seats Fit in the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace?

There are two sets of LATCH car-seat connectors on the rear outboard seats and an upper tether on the middle seat. All of the anchors and tethers are easy to find and use, but the F-Pace has large seat bolsters that may get in the way and make some car seats difficult to install.

2017 Jaguar F-Pace Features

Standard features include an 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system, an 11-speaker Meridian audio system, a USB port, Bluetooth, and HD Radio. Some models come with a 10.2-inch touch screen, a 12.3-inch instrument display, a 17-speaker Meridian surround sound system, an additional USB port, satellite radio, a navigation system, voice control, and a Wi-Fi hot spot.

The F-Type’s standard infotainment system uses an 8-inch touch screen, but we recommend the upgraded 10.2-inch screen for its sharper graphics and quicker response times.
