- Overview
The 2020 Jaguar F-Pace sports athletic handling, a range of potent engines, and more passenger space than most rivals. It disappoints, however, with its subpar cabin materials and uncooperative infotainment system. The F-Pace does not have an overall score or ranking due to missing safety and predicted reliability data.

Yes, the two-row 2020 Jaguar F-Pace is a good luxury compact SUV. The F-Pace offers the rare combination of sportiness and utility. It has four brawny engine options, excellent handling, standard all-wheel drive, and more cabin and cargo space than most classmates. It does have some drawbacks, though. It’s one of the most expensive SUVs in the segment, and its cabin, while not of poor quality, doesn’t rise to the level one expects of the Jaguar label. Also, the infotainment system is frustrating to use.
The F-Pace is a good match for shoppers who want a small but roomy SUV that’s fun to drive. That said, there are better options. Several rivals offer more-upscale cabins, provide more-cushioned rides, and cost several thousand dollars less than the F-Pace.
You may want to consider the BMW X3, which also has plenty of seating and cargo space. The Porsche Macan costs a bit more than the F-Pace, but it’s even more fun to drive and features a posher cabin and a user-friendly infotainment system.

The 2020 F-Pace is part of a generation that began with the 2017 model year. For 2018, a turbocharged four-cylinder engine became available. For 2019, Jaguar introduced the high-performance SVR trim, a larger standard touch screen, and several new standard safety features, including a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, automatic emergency braking, driver drowsiness monitoring, and lane keep assist.
Jaguar introduced two new trim levels for 2020 (the Checkered Flag and 300 Sport) and discontinued the diesel engine option. The automaker also made Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard features.
If you can forego Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and you're open to a used vehicle, look for an upper-level 2017 or 2018 F-Pace trim. It will have most of the same safety features as the new F-Pace but should cost significantly less. Check out our reviews of the 2017, 2018 and 2019 F-Pace. The F-Pace has a base price of $45,200, which is above average for a luxury compact SUV. The F-Pace Checkered Flag is a new midrange trim that starts at $58,400. The range-topping F-Pace SVR starts at $80,600.

The Audi Q5 delivers an excellent mix of ride comfort and agility. It comes standard with all-wheel drive, and it’s available with powerful engine options. Inside, the Q5 is comfortable and roomy. Though the Q5 is on the pricier side of the luxury compact SUV class, its base model still starts several thousand dollars less than the F-Pace’s, and the Q5 comes with an impressive list of standard features. Simply put, the Q5 is a more well-rounded SUV than the F-Pace.
The F-Pace has thrilling driving dynamics, but the all-wheel-drive Porsche Macan’s are even better. It’s arguably the best performing SUV in the class, and its ride is super comfortable. The Macan's interior boasts sumptuous materials and plenty of technology. The Porsche isn’t as roomy as the Jaguar, however, and its top engine can’t match the power output of the F-Pace SVR’s V8. The Macan also costs a little more than the F-Pace. Still, the Macan is the better SUV.

The F-Pace seats five people in two rows. The comfortable cabin offers supportive seats and more head- and legroom than most luxury compact SUVs offer. On the downside, thick roof pillars can inhibit rearward visibility, and climbing in and out of the vehicle can be difficult for taller people who will need to duck to avoid bumping their heads on the door sill.
The F-Pace has two full sets of rear-seat LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats and an additional tether anchor for the rear middle seat.
Most rivals’ cabin materials are a cut above those used in the F-Pace. While this Jaguar’s cabin looks good, you’ll notice that some surfaces are covered in downscale materials that don’t meet the ritzy standards set by competing brands like Mercedes-Benz.
This spacious Jaguar can cart more goods than most of its competitors. It has 33.5 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 63.5 cubic feet when you lower the second row. These figures are well above average for the segment. Additionally, the rear seats are easy to fold flat, so you can use every inch of your available cargo space. Be aware that if you opt for the available full-size spare tire, you’ll lose some of that cargo space.
Standard features include a panoramic roof and an infotainment system with a 10-inch touch screen, Bluetooth, an 11-speaker Meridian audio system, HD Radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Available features include a navigation system, a 17-speaker Meridian audio system, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Jaguar’s InControl App Suite, and an activity key, which is a waterproof wristband that you can use to access your vehicle.
The infotainment system has a sleek design and intuitive menus, but it doesn’t always perform as expected or respond to inputs immediately. Luckily, Jaguar makes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard for 2020. With these two systems you can connect your smartphone to the F-Pace, allowing you to access apps from your phone on the SUV's touch screen.
The F-Pace has four engine options that range from modest to muscular. The base engine is a 247-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder, and it provides enough punch to get the job done both in town and on the highway. Those seeking a more spirited driving experience, however, will prefer one of the three available engines. A more-potent version of the turbo-four delivers 296 horsepower. A 380-horsepower V6 and a 550-horsepower V8 (which only comes in the F-Pace SVR trim) elevate the F-Pace’s acceleration to sports-car-like levels.
With the turbo-four engines, the F-Pace earns an estimated 22 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, which are average figures for the class. Numbers drop to 18 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway with the V6 engine, while V8-powered models return an even lower 16/21 mpg city/highway.
Few competitors offer the thrills that the F-Pace delivers. Precise steering, nimble cornering, and excellent stability make this SUV a joy to drive. However, its firmer suspension makes it less ideal for those who prefer a plush ride.
The 2020 F-Pace does not yet have a predicted reliability rating from J.D. Power.
The Jaguar F-Pace comes with a five-year/60,000-mile warranty.
Neither the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has crash tested the 2020 F-Pace.
Standard driver assistance features include a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, low-speed automatic emergency braking, driver drowsiness monitoring, lane keep assist, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
Available safety features include a head-up display, high-speed automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, a 360-degree parking camera system, rear cross traffic alert, parallel and perpendicular park assist, and traffic sign recognition with an adaptive speed limiter, which, when activated, work together to keep you from driving over the appropriate speed.
The 2020 F-Pace is about 15.5 feet long. Its curb weight ranges from 3,870 to 4,395 pounds. Its gross weight is between 5,420 and 5,620 pounds.
Jaguar builds the F-Pace in the United Kingdom.
With four available engines and nine trims, choosing the right F-Pace model can be tricky. The base model comes pretty well-equipped, but it’s not available with any of the stronger engines. Upper trims have the more-powerful engines, but most don’t add many tech, comfort, or safety features.
We recommend the F-Pace Prestige. It has a great combination of safety features, seating amenities, and tech upgrades. These include power-adjustable and heated front seats, as well as a Wi-Fi hot spot. The F-Pace Prestige comes with the standard turbo-four engine, but you can upgrade to the 296-horsepower turbo-four.
Performance junkies should start with the 300 Sport trim, which comes with the 296-horsepower turbo-four. The F-Pace S comes with a 380-horsepower supercharged V6 and adds some ride-enhancing features like an adaptive suspension. For maximum engine power, choose the F-Pace SVR, which has a brawny V8.
The base F-Pace starts at $45,200, and it comes with a 247-horsepower turbo-four engine. Standard features include remote start, a sliding panoramic roof, dual-zone automatic climate control, synthetic leather upholstery, and an infotainment system with a 10-inch touch screen, Bluetooth, an 11-speaker Meridian audio system, HD Radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
Standard driver assistance features include rain-sensing windshield wipers, a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, low-speed automatic emergency braking, driver drowsiness monitoring, and lane keep assist.
The F-Pace Premium has a starting price of $47,800. In addition to the base trim's features, the Premium comes with a garage door opener, 19-inch wheels, eight-way power-adjustable front seats with four-way electric lumbar support, and heated sideview mirrors with auto-dimming and power-folding capabilities. For an extra $3,000, you can upgrade to the 296-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
The F-Pace Prestige starts at $52,200. It comes with genuine leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, 10-way power-adjustable and heated front seats, xenon LED headlights, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and a navigation system. As with the Premium trim, the Prestige is available with the 296-horsepower turbo-four an additional $3,000.
The F-Pace R-Sport has a starting price of $56,500 and comes with 20-inch wheels, satellite radio, 16-way power-adjustable front sport seats, directionally adaptive headlights, R-Sport branding, and distinctive design elements. It’s available with the same powertrains as the Premium and Prestige trims.
The F-Pace Checkered Flag is the first of two limited edition trims introduced for 2020. It’s powered by the base engine and has a starting price of $58,400. This trim is based on the R-Sport model, and it features distinctive exterior styling. It also adds a second driver’s display gauge, but it doesn’t have any other noteworthy upgrades.
The F-Pace 300 Sport is the second new limited edition trim for the 2020 model year. It comes with most of the Checkered Flag trim’s features, as well as the upgraded 296-horsepower turbo-four engine.
The F-Pace S has a starting price of $62,100. The S features a 380-horsepower supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine. It also comes with red brake calipers, an adaptive suspension, and S-branding on the steering wheel, front seats, and elsewhere.
The F-Pace Portfolio starts at $63,600 and is powered by the 296-horsepower engine. Standard features include a 17-speaker Meridian audio system, a head-up display, ventilated front bucket seats, heated and reclining rear seats, four-zone climate control, a cooled glove box, and a hands-free liftgate.
The high-performance F-Pace SVR starts at $80,600. It comes with a 550-horsepower supercharged V8 engine. The SVR also has 21-inch wheels and several distinctive styling touches.

The 2020 Jaguar F-Pace’s engaging driving dynamics and available muscular engines make it a fun-to-drive SUV that handles like a sports car. It also has plenty of space for people and their belongings, so it’s both practical and fun. The cabin is where the F-Pace disappoints. Materials are subpar for the luxury compact SUV class, and the infotainment system is buggy.
