2014 Infiniti QX80 Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2014 Infiniti QX80 was new.

Interior: 8.3

The 2014 Infiniti QX80 earns reviewer praise for high-quality cabin materials and appealing style. Test drivers also note that the interior is solidly built and very quiet.

  • "Inside, the 2014 Infiniti QX80 offers a handsome cabin that's enhanced by the generous use of high-quality materials." -- Edmunds
  • "The idea of the 2014 QX80 as an ‘executive jet’ for the road really helps everything about the SUV make sense. The interior is a finely crafted suite and, with the smoothness of its ride and quietness of its cabin, the QX80 is an idyllic place to be." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Its interior is lavishly appointed, with supple leather, wood trim and soft touch materials adorning every surface. …" -- Left Lane News
  • "Materials and assembly quality are first-rate and price-appropriate. Soft leathers, handsome wood accents, and tasteful detailing create a pleasingly classy ambiance." -- Consumer Guide (2013)

The 2014 QX80 seats seven with middle-row bucket seats or eight with a middle-row bench seat. Leather upholstery and heated, power-adjustable front seats are standard, as is a heated steering wheel. Seating options include climate-controlled front seats and heated middle-row outboard seats. Test drivers say that the front seats are very comfortable and supportive, and they appreciate that the seats are highly-adjustable, though some find it odd that power-adjustable pedals are not available. Test drivers say that although rearward visibility is fairly poor, the Around View Monitor improves visibility around the vehicle. Reviewers mention that the second-row seats are also comfortable, but most concur that the third row does not offer much comfort or legroom.

  • "The QX80's seating is supremely supportive in the first and second rows, and even the 60/40 power folding third-row seats, while not spacious, are suitable for adults." -- AutoTrader
  • "As you'd expect, the QX80's front and second-row seats offer a high degree of comfort. The 60/40-split power-folding third-row seat has less legroom than the third rows in other large luxury SUVs, and depending on their age and size, youngsters may only find it passable for short jaunts." -- Edmunds
  • "Infiniti's design philosophy for the QX80 is related to ‘executive jet’ interiors. In execution, this means spacious seating all the way to the third row with seats that define sumptuous comfort." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Some testers find the pedals too far forward, which compromises comfort a bit. And adjustable pedals are MIA, a curious omission considering the many other power features on offer here. Visibility suffers from fairly shallow side windows and lofty SUV-typical ride height, so it's just as well that the Around View camera system and front/rear-obstacle detection are standard." -- Consumer Guide (2013)

Interior Features

Standard features in the 2014 Infiniti QX80 include a 13-speaker Bose stereo, Bluetooth, a USB port, satellite radio, navigation, tri-zone automatic climate control and Infiniti's Around View Monitor, which uses multiple cameras to provide a 360-degree view around the QX80. Optional features include blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and a rear-seat entertainment system.

Test drivers report that the layout of controls on the dash and center stack is intuitive. They also appreciate that most audio and climate functions have their own, separate switches, though some say they're mounted a bit too low on the center stack for easy reach. Some reviewers mention that the blind spot monitoring system would be more useful if it worked for lane changes at lower speeds as well as highway speeds. Another critic notes that the alerts from the driver assistance features are more distracting than useful.

  • "My sole complaint is that the blind-spot monitoring only seems to work at highway speeds, when I could use its guidance in squeezing the long chassis into traffic at much lower speeds." -- CNET
  • "Just as important is the fact that technophobes have nothing to fear, because the QX's electronics interface is very easy and intuitive to use." -- Edmunds
  • "Major audio and climate functions have separate switches, but they're rather low on the center console for easiest use. Far more distracting, at least for our testers, the various driver-assistance features included with the Technology Package generate enough lights and sounds to fill the bridge of Starship Enterprise--another reason to avoid this deceptively pricey option." -- Consumer Guide (2013)

The 2014 Infiniti QX80 offers 16.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, 49.6 cubic feet with the third row folded and 95.1 cubic feet with the third and second rows folded. The QX80's maximum cargo space is good for the class, only falling short of the cargo capacities of larger rivals like the Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac Escalade. Test drivers note that it is difficult to load longer cargo in models with the middle-row captain’s chairs, which feature a fixed center console. Reviewers also mention that there is ample small-item storage in the cabin.

  • "… the QX80 is undeniably useful as a pack mule, with 16.6, 49.6 and 95.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third-, second- and first-rows, respectively." -- Left Lane News
  • "Avoid the 2nd-row buckets if you often haul bulky cargo. The fixed console/armrest that comes with them is a fairly large obstruction. On the other hand, it contributes to generous in-cabin storage along with a roomy front console bin and good-size door pockets." -- Consumer Guide (2013)
