2014 Infiniti QX60 Overview

Is the 2014 Infiniti QX60 a Good Used SUV?

The 2014 QX60 isn't a bad SUV, but it's not necessarily a good one either – especially given the quality of some other cars in the class. The QX60 has three rows of spacious seats and a comfortable ride, making it a good family vehicle. It was also a finalist for our 2014 Best Luxury 3-Row SUV for the Money award. Still, many rivals offer more to like.

The Infiniti QX60 features a 265-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The engine is powerful enough while driving around town, but it underwhelms on the highway. The transmission sometimes hesitates to dole out more power when it's needed. The combo does get pretty good fuel economy, though: 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available. The QX60 provides a cushioned ride, but its steering feels imprecise and it tends to lean while cornering.

The Infiniti QX60 has three rows of seats and a maximum capacity of seven people. All three rows have enough room for adult occupants – a nice bonus, as many 3-row SUVs have tiny third-row seats. It's also easy to get in and out of the QX60's third row. There are two full sets of LATCH car-seat connectors in the second row. The system isn't as easy to use as some rivals'.

The QX60's cabin has a great look and feel, and it uses plenty of premium materials. Standard features include Bluetooth phone connectivity, a USB port, and tri-zone automatic climate control. Noteworthy available features include Bluetooth audio streaming, a 15-speaker Bose audio system, and navigation. The audio and climate controls are simple to use, and most features are controlled through physical buttons and knobs rather than a touch screen.

How Reliable Is the 2014 Infiniti QX60?

The QX60's reliability rating is the hair in your proverbial used car soup. J.D. Power and Associates gave the 2014 QX60 a reliability rating of two out of five, which is poor. A rating of three is considered average across all vehicles. Many other SUVs in the class scored substantially higher (3.5 and above).

How Safe Is the QX60?

The Infiniti QX60 has a pretty good safety score, and it performed well in crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety put the QX60 through three tests and gave it a rating of Good (the highest possible) in all of them. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the QX60 a five-star overall crash test rating.

The only standard driver assistance feature is a rearview camera, but available active safety features include adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning.

Should I Consider Another Used QX60?

The 2014 Infiniti QX60 is part of the SUV’s first generation, which debuted for 2013 and includes the 2017 model year. Though models from the same generation are basically the same, there are two key differences: newer model years usually have more features, and older model years usually cost less. In the QX60's case, the changes to newer models are mostly cosmetic; there aren't any notable features in 2015 or 2016 models that the 2014 doesn't offer. In other words, save yourself some money and buy a 2014.

Which Used Infiniti QX60 Is Right for Me?

The QX60 only comes in one trim, so when you're shopping, it's just a matter of finding a model that includes the available features you want. For example, some models include all-wheel drive, navigation, and adaptive cruise control.

Like most automakers, Infiniti has a certified pre-owned vehicle program. CPO vehicles tend to cost a little more, but the extra assurance is worth the money for some buyers. The Infiniti certified pre-owned warranty has three levels of coverage based on the vehicle’s age and mileage. Vehicles with less than 15,000 miles receive a six-year/75,000-mile warranty from the original new-car purchase date. Vehicles less than four years old with more than 15,000 miles receive a six-year/unlimited-mileage warranty from the original new-car purchase date. Finally, vehicles more than four years old with more than 15,000 miles receive a two-year/unlimited-mileage warranty good from the CPO purchase date. Infiniti CPO vehicles must pass a 167-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Infiniti warranty page carefully.

2014 Infiniti QX60 and Other SUVs to Consider

Which Is Better: 2014 Infiniti QX60 or 2014 Acura MDX?

The Acura MDX has a more powerful engine and better gas mileage than the QX60. It also provides a nice balance between ride comfort and cornering ability. The MDX has a quiet interior and seats seven, though the third-row seats are too small for most adults. The MDX also has more cargo space than many rivals and earns one of the highest safety ratings in the class, though its reliability score – like the QX60's – is among the worst. The MDX costs about $2,000 less than the QX60, making it a somewhat better SUV with a lower price. Though the differences may not be huge, they're enough to make the MDX a superior choice.

Which Is Better: 2014 Infiniti QX60 or 2014 Infiniti QX70?

The Infiniti QX70 gets lower fuel economy estimates than the QX60, but it has a more powerful V6 engine and an available V8. The QX70 is well-balanced and agile around turns, and it's more fun to drive than its Infiniti brother. The cabin features a sporty design and high-quality materials. While the QX60 seats seven, the QX70 only seats five. However, both rows have plenty of head- and legroom. The QX70 costs about $2,000 less than the QX60, and it gets a much better reliability rating (3.5 out of five). Unless you really need a third row of seats, the QX70 is a better choice than the QX60.
