2013 Infiniti QX56 Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2013 Infiniti QX56 was new.

Interior: 8.1

Exceptional build quality and luxurious interior materials impress reviewers who’ve tested the 2013 Infiniti QX56. They note that rich leather and wood trim enhance the upscale feel, while ample passenger space and comfortable seats make the QX56 ideal for long trips.

  • "Materials and assembly quality are first-rate and price-appropriate. Soft leathers, handsome wood accents, and tasteful detailing create a pleasingly classy ambiance." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Passengers are treated to truly luxurious accommodations inside, with top-notch leather and wood surfaces and seats comfortable enough for all-day trips." -- Edmunds
  • "The idea of the 2013 QX56 as an ‘executive jet’ for the road really helps everything about the SUV make sense. The interior is a finely crafted suite, and with the smoothness of its ride and quietness of its cabin, the QX56 is an idyllic place to be." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The … interior is awash in the sort of creamy, soft-touch, carefully wrapped leather and precisely molded plastics and glossy wood trim that you might indeed find inside an executive jet." -- Automobile Magazine (2011)

The 2013 Infiniti QX56 offers seating for seven with a pair of second-row captain’s chairs, or eight if equipped with a second-row bench seat. Leather upholstery, power-adjustable heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are standard. Test drivers say that the QX56 is extremely comfortable in the first and second rows, and that the cabin offers good outward visibility as well as a spacious, open feel. A few test drivers say that the third row also offers more passenger space than what’s found in many three-row SUVs. However, others comment that limited legroom means that the third row is best for children.

  • "The 2nd row offers easy entry/exit and bountiful space. The standard captain's-chair buckets and ‘no charge’ 3-person bench seat are equally comfortable, but the former strike us as slightly more inviting. ... The 3rd-row bench is more adult-friendly than most, but it's still more for kids, as the seat bottom sits close to the floor, leg room is limited, and the access passage is tight." -- Consumer Guide
  • "While the first- and second-row captain's chairs are the epitome of cushy comfort, the third row's lack of legroom limits its usefulness to younger kids." -- Edmunds
  • "Seating is spacious even all the way back in the third row, and the seats themselves are certainly posh and comfortable." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The front seats are very comfortable and there's lots of legroom for second-row riders. Acres of glass make everything feel bright and airy, and we like that the dashboard is low. Forward visibility is very good, although the entry-assist handle on the A-pillar is a little too close for comfort." -- Car and Driver (2011)

Interior Features

The 2013 Infiniti QX56 comes with a moonroof, a power liftgate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, keyless access with push-button start, tri-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth phone and audio streaming, navigation, Infiniti’s Around View (360-degree) camera system with front and rear parking sensors and a 13-speaker Bose stereo system with a USB port, auxiliary audio and video jacks and satellite radio. A technology package adds safety and driver assistance features that include adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning, as well as blind spot monitoring and lane departure warning systems.

Reviewers agree that the QX56 offers user-friendly controls and tech features that are easy to use. However, some also note that the driver aids that come with the optional technology package create more distractions than they would like. One test driver says that this is partially due to the QX56’s large size, which makes it easy to set off the lane departure warning system if you’re on smaller roads.

  • "Far more distracting, at least for our testers, the various driver-assistance features included with the Technology Package generate enough lights and sounds to fill the bridge of Starship Enterprise--another reason to avoid this deceptively pricey option." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Despite the complexity of these systems, operation is surprisingly simple, thanks to thoughtful design and well-placed controls. Particularly useful is the 360-degree parking camera system that stitches together images from four separate cameras to create a top-down view of the vehicle -- something that can be a huge help when negotiating tight spaces in this very large vehicle." -- Edmunds
  • "You won't find any design-shockers on the dash, but everything is easy to access and the controls don't require a computer science degree to navigate." -- Autoblog (2011)
  • "Problem is, the QX56 is so wide and big-shouldered that it's pretty easy to trigger the beeps on narrow lanes, such as on roads under construction. You can turn it off, though." -- Motor Trend (2011)

The 2013 Infiniti QX56 has 16.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, 49.6 cubic feet behind the second row and 95.1 cubic feet with both rear rows folded. Reviewers say that the QX56 offers a useful amount of cargo space. One test driver notes that models with the second-row bench seat are a smarter choice if you plan to haul larger items, since the center console that comes with the captain’s chairs can complicate loading cargo.

  • "Avoid the 2nd-row buckets if you often haul bulky cargo. The fixed console/armrest that comes with them is a fairly large obstruction. On the other hand, it contributes to generous in-cabin storage along with a roomy front console bin and good-size door pockets." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Wondering how you're going to get that new five-piece Ikea bedroom set home? Drop the second row too and you'll find space for all of it. See? The QX can be rational too." -- Motor Trend (2011)
