2019 Infiniti QX30 Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 6.2

The 2019 Infiniti QX30 has a premium, Mercedes-Benz-like interior, which makes sense given that this SUV is based on the Mercedes-Benz GLA. The QX30's seats are comfortable, but rear visibility is limited, and total cargo room is subpar for the class.

  • On smoother surfaces, both Infiniti models display a quietness that shows off the interior designer's attention to detail." -- Autotrader
  • "Infiniti pulls off a premium interior, though most pieces you touch (stalks, switches, steering wheel) come from the high-quality Mercedes parts bin. The rest are Infiniti-issue and arguably just as nice. Quality is excellent and assembly is tight. Appears built to last." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "The steering wheel, the door window switches, the central speedometer screen that literally uses Mercedes graphics, the door locks, the center infotainment stack, and even the car's key are all from the GLA. But you know what? You shouldn't care, because it feels like a Mercedes product should feel. Those pieces of trim are weighted properly and the leather supple, giving them a far more expensive feel, even though you're in an entry-level premium car." -- Automobile Magazine (2017)

Seating

The QX30 seats five people. Cloth upholstery is standard. Seating upgrades such as leatherette or leather upholstery are available, as are heated, power-adjustable front seats and front sport seats.

The front seats are supportive and comfortable, though taller drivers may want a little more headroom. Two adults can sit in the back seats in moderate comfort, though legroom may be lacking. Rearward visibility is poor, and some road noise may enter the cabin.

For attaching child safety seats, there are two sets of LATCH connectors on the rear outboard seats.

  • "The QX30's aggressive coupelike styling helps it look the part, but it also doesn't make for the roomiest or ergonomically optimized cabin. … rear visibility can be an issue if you don't have the electronic aid of the optional Technology package." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • [The seats] offer a nice balance of comfort and lateral support and can be upgraded to sport seats with the Sport model. The rear seats are tight, as you might expect looking at the size of it. Adults certainly fit, but neither headroom nor legroom are plentiful." -- Motor Trend (2017)
  • "The low driving position and limited front headroom will be deal-breakers for larger folks, and the narrow cabin inhibits knee and hip space. The backseat is improbably adult-friendly once you're in it, but the short rear doors make entry and exit a bear." -- Cars.com (2017)

Interior Features

Infiniti equips the base QX30 Pure with the InTouch infotainment system, a 7-inch touch screen, HD Radio, satellite radio, Bluetooth, a six-speaker stereo, two USB ports, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, and proximity keyless entry. Standard safety features include a rearview camera and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking.

Optional equipment includes navigation, wireless phone charging, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a 10-speaker Bose stereo, and a panoramic moonroof. Available safety features include a surround-view camera, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, parallel park assist, front and rear parking sensors, and automatic high beams.

The infotainment system is straightforward but not cutting edge. The graphics feel dated, and smartphone integration is limited to Bluetooth. Also, the touch screen is recessed into the dashboard, making it tricky to reach.

  • "With no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto smartphone integration, Bluetooth is the go-to connection here. We experienced limited success when connecting an iPhone via USB cable. The system occasionally recognized it as a media device, but most often did not." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "For starters, the QX30's infotainment and navigation system is Infiniti's through-and-through, and we found it both easy to use and pleasantly capable (if perhaps a little dated in the graphics department). We experienced no trouble connecting our personal devices and were able to navigate through extensive music libraries with relative ease." -- Left Lane News (2017)
  • You can touch the screen, which is a bit of a reach, or use the Infiniti controller installed behind the Mercedes gear selector. Some of the direct-select buttons, such as for the map, are near the controller; others, such as for the radio, are up on the dash below the screen. It's not the most intuitive user interface, but it works well when you figure it out." -- Motor Trend (2017)

Cargo

The Infiniti QX30 has a decent amount of cargo space behind the rear seats: 19.2 cubic feet. You get a less-impressive 34 cubic feet when you fold down the rear seats. A power liftgate is not available.

  • The QX30 offers a claimed 19.2 cubic feet of trunk space. That's above average for the segment but just average for a compact hatchback. It also seems like a generous measurement. While there's some room back there, vertical space is compromised by the sharply raked roof." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "… the cargo area is rather small thanks in part to that dramatically sloping rear hatch. You can get two medium-sized suitcases in next to each other and maybe another on top." -- Motor Trend (2017)
  • "The QX30's cargo area is deep but not very tall, and in-cabin storage is minimal." -- Cars.com (2017)
