Is the 2019 Infiniti Q70 a Good Used Car?

The 2019 Infiniti Q70 is a decent used luxury midsize car. It offers two powerful engine options and responsive handling, while its spacious interior and supportive seats provide passengers a relaxed cabin. But the positive aspects of the Q70 fizzle out after that.

Among classmates that offer more luxurious features and more engaging rides, the Q70 struggles to stand out. This model is part of a generation that dates back to 2011, and it shows. Its interior styling has aged poorly, and its tech amenities are outdated by today’s standards. Adding to this Infiniti’s woes are its higher than average ownership costs and below-class-average safety and predicted reliability ratings.

Which Used Infiniti Q70 Trim Is Right for Me?

The 2019 Infiniti Q70 comes in two trims: 3.7 Luxe and 5.6 Luxe. Both trim names refer to the two available engines: a 3.7-liter V6 and a 5.6-liter V8. Save for the powertrain, there isn’t much difference between these models, as standard features and available options are mostly the same for each.

Rear-wheel drive comes standard in both variants, while all-wheel drive is available. A long-wheelbase body style is available for both models, which adds 5.6 inches of rear-seat legroom.

  • Infiniti Q70 3.7 Luxe: The rear-wheel-drive 3.7 Luxe model comes with a 330-horsepower V6 engine and an automatic transmission. Standard features include leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, a heated steering wheel, a moonroof, rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic headlights, a 360-degree parking camera system, front and rear parking sensors, and an 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system with navigation, a 10-speaker Bose sound system, Bluetooth, and satellite radio.
  • Infiniti Q70 5.6 Luxe: The 5.6 Luxe features a 420-horsepower V8 engine. It comes standard with all the 3.7 Luxe trim features and offers the same available add-on packages.

When the Q70 was new, it was available with a handful of optional packages. That means you may find used models with additional performance features like a sport-tuned suspension or performance brakes, or you may come across used Q70s with active safety features like adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, or blind spot monitoring.

What Does Infiniti's Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Cover?

Infiniti offers a certified pre-owned program for vehicles six years old or less and with fewer than 70,000 miles. Eligibility is determined by the vehicle’s initial sale date. The Infiniti certified pre-owned warranty has three levels of coverage based on the vehicle’s age and mileage.

Vehicles with less than 15,000 miles receive a six-year/75,000-mile warranty from the original new-car purchase date. Vehicles less than four years old with more than 15,000 miles receive a six-year/unlimited-mileage warranty from the original new-car purchase date. Finally, vehicles more than four years old with more than 15,000 miles receive a two-year/unlimited-mileage warranty good from the CPO purchase date. Infiniti CPO vehicles must pass a 167-point inspection. Infiniti CPO vehicles also receive free maintenance for one year. Additional benefits like towing, roadside assistance, and trip interruption coverage may be available, so read the Infiniti warranty page carefully.

Infiniti has one of the better CPO programs in the industry, according to our analysis. Lexus and Audi are among the very few that are better.

How Safe Is the Q70?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration only partially crash tested the 2019 Infiniti Q70, giving it four out of five stars in the frontal crash and rollover tests.

2019 Infiniti Q70 Versus the Competition

Which Is Better: 2019 Infiniti Q70 or 2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a great luxury midsize car, and it is a much better option than the Q70. The E-Class earns its luxury moniker with its opulence and class-leading cabin quality, and it boasts a very long list of standard features that frankly belittles the Q70’s offerings. Additionally, it has better handling, more-powerful engine options in its two-high-performance models, and additional body styles. The Infiniti earns a higher predicted reliability rating, but that’s about the only thing it has over this Mercedes.

Which Is Better: 2019 Infiniti Q70 or 2019 Audi A6?

The 2019 Audi A6 is also a great choice if you're looking to buy a used luxury midsize sedan. It offers many powerful engine options, agile handling, and top-notch safety scores. It also has a cushioned ride and a spacious cabin. The A6 does have some faults though. Its interior isn’t as luxurious as some rivals', and it carries the highest projected ownership costs in the class. With that said, the A6 bests the Q70 in almost every other category, so if your budget allows, go with the Audi.

2019 Infiniti Q70 Performance

How Does the 2019 Infiniti Q70 Drive?

The Q70 earns praise for its proficient handling and smooth ride, but some reviewers say its ride quality is somewhat unsettling over cracked roads. Its base engine provides more than enough power for daily use, and this sedan is available with an even punchier V8.

  • Base engine: 3.7-liter V6 with 330 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque
  • Available engine: 5.6-liter V8 with 420 horsepower 417 pound-feet of torque
  • Drivetrain: standard front-wheel drive; available all-wheel drive
  • Transmission: seven-speed automatic
Does the 2019 Infiniti Q70 Get Good Gas Mileage?

The Q70 gets poor fuel economy ratings compared to many rivals in the used luxury midsize car class.

  • V6, RWD: 18/25 mpg city/highway
  • V6, AWD: 18/24 mpg
  • V8, RWD: 16/24 mpg
  • V8, AWD: 16/23 mpg

2019 Q70 Interior

How Many People Does the 2019 Q70 Seat?

The Infiniti Q70 seats five people. Both rows offer plenty of support and legroom for passengers to remain comfortable during long drives, but the middle rear seat is somewhat tight. The available long-wheelbase variant helps mitigate this issue. Overall, the cabin is well-made and has plenty of plush materials. However, this sedan’s interior feels woefully outdated, lacking the modern feel that many, if not all, class competitors possess.

Standard seating features:

  • Leather upholstery
  • 10-way power-adjustable front seats with memory settings
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Power tilting-and-telescoping steering wheel with memory settings
  • Heated steering wheel

Available seating features:

  • Front sport seats
  • Upgraded leather upholstery
How Many Child Car Seats Fit in the 2019 Infiniti Q70?

The 2019 Q70 has two complete sets of LATCH car-seat connectors for the rear outboard seats and an upper tether for the rear middle seat. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave this LATCH system the lowest rating of Poor for ease of use. The lower anchors are set too deep in the seat, require too much force to attach the straps, and are difficult to maneuver around.

2019 Infiniti Q70 Features

The Q70's standard touch screen feels like it’s from the previous decade. Its graphics aren’t as sharp as many competitors’ screens, and using the control knob that accompanies the touch command is far more complicated than it needs to be. Additionally, this Infiniti sedan lacks modern tech amenities like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which most rivals offer.

  • Standard infotainment features: an 8-inch touch screen, navigation, Bluetooth, satellite radio, a USB port, and a 10-speaker Bose audio system
  • Available infotainment features: a 16-speaker Bose surround-sound audio system
  • Additional standard features: dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, push-button start, Active Noise Control, and proximity keyless entry
