2014 Infiniti Q60 Overview

Is the 2014 Infiniti Q60 a Good Used Car?

While the 2014 Infiniti Q60 isn't a bad car, many luxury small cars are better. Despite the Q60’s enjoyable driving dynamics and handful of other strong qualities, you would be remiss if you did not consider the alternatives.

Used 2014 Infiniti Q60 Performance and Interior

The 2014 Infiniti Q60 succeeds the Infiniti G37 with a standard V6 engine that makes either 330 horsepower (coupe) or 325 horsepower (convertible). Those horsepower ratings increase to 348 and 343 in the IPL trim coupe and convertible models, respectively. A seven-speed automatic transmission is standard, while a six-speed manual is available in some models. The peppy base engine has precise steering and adept handling – great for busy expressways or congested city streets. However, the automatic transmission can be slow to respond under hard acceleration, and the V6 engine can create unwanted noise and vibration at high speeds. Fuel economy is low for the class at 16-19 mpg in the city and 24-27 mpg on the highway.

The 2014 Q60’s interior is full of high-quality materials, but its cabin does not look as modern as rivals like the Audi A4. Its audio and climate controls are easy to use, and some models have an intuitive navigation system with sensibly arranged functions. Front-seat passengers will find the seats and legroom satisfactory, but both body styles’ rear seats are best left to children. Rearward visibility is hindered due to the placement of the roof pillars in the coupe and a narrow rear window in the hardtop convertible. Cargo space is also small for both models, with just 7.4 cubic feet in the coupe and 11.8 cubic feet with the top up in the convertible. However, this decreases to a miniscule 2.5 cubic feet with the top down. There are two full sets of LATCH car-seat connectors on the rear outboard seats and an upper tether anchor on the rear middle seat.

All models come with leather seats, push-button start, Bluetooth, a USB port, a 7-inch color display screen, satellite radio, heated front seats, and eight-way power-adjustable front seats. Some used models may come with a 7-inch touch screen, dual-zone automatic climate control, a Bose premium audio system, a moonroof, a navigation system, and front sport seats.

How Reliable Is the 2014 Infiniti Q60?

The 2014 Infiniti Q60 has average reliability compared to all cars on the road, earning a score of three out of five from J.D. Power and Associates. However, this is below average for the luxury small car class. Cars like the Mercedes-Benz C-Class (4.5 out of five) get much better scores.

How Safe Is the Q60?

No crash tests were conducted on the 2014 Infiniti Q60. All models come with a rearview camera. Some models come with rear parking sensors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and adaptive cruise control. This is a scant amount of safety features compared to rivals like the BMW 3 Series; some models offer blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning.

Should I Consider Another Used Q60?

The 2014 Infiniti Q60 (formerly the G37) marks the first year of a generation that includes the 2015 model year. The IPL coupe was discontinued for 2015, but there were no other major changes between 2014 and 2015. Therefore, you may want to stick with the 2014 model to get an almost identical car at a lower price than the 2015.

Which Used Infiniti Q60 Is Right for Me?

The 2014 Infiniti Q60 coupe comes in five trims: Q60 Journey, Q60 AWD, Q60S 6MT, Q60 IPL, and Q60 IPL 6MT. The convertible comes in three trims: Q60, Q60S 6MT, and Q60 IPL. Both the coupe and convertible base trims have an adequate amount of features for the average buyer. IPL models have slightly more horsepower, but the difference in handling and acceleration isn’t noticeable enough to justify the price increase. If you want more technology features – such as a navigation system, a 7-inch touch screen, and an 11- or 13-speaker Bose premium audio system – opt for the Q60S 6MT trim in either body style.

Despite the Q60's average reliability, you may still want to consider a certified pre-owned model. The Infiniti certified pre-owned warranty has three levels of coverage based on the vehicle’s age and mileage. Vehicles with less than 15,000 miles receive a six-year/75,000-mile warranty from the original new-car purchase date. Vehicles less than four years old with more than 15,000 miles receive a six-year/unlimited-mileage warranty from the original new-car purchase date. Finally, vehicles more than four years old with more than 15,000 miles receive a two-year/unlimited-mileage warranty good from the CPO purchase date. Infiniti CPO vehicles must pass a 167-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Infiniti warranty page carefully.

2014 Infiniti Q60 and Other Cars to Consider

Which Is Better: 2014 Infiniti Q60 or 2014 Infiniti Q50?

The 2014 Infiniti Q50 has more trunk space and features than the Q60, including a dual-screen infotainment system, two USB ports, and HD Radio. Moreover, the Q60’s coupe and convertible body styles have less passenger space than the Q50 sedan. The Q60 does have a higher reliability rating and more horsepower in various models, but the Q50 scores again with its higher fuel economy ratings and lower ownership costs. Between these low-ranking luxury small cars, the Q50 is the better option.

Which Is Better: 2014 Infiniti Q60 or 2014 BMW 4 Series?

Just like the Q60, the 2014 BMW 4 Series comes in coupe and convertible body styles. Other than that, the two are vastly different. The 4 Series has superior fuel economy estimates, a larger host of safety features, and more space in the rear seats. Additionally, the 4 Series coupe has an extra 8 cubic feet of cargo space than the Q60 coupe. There is a slight disparity between both vehicle's ownership costs, but you will not regret paying a little extra for the 4 Series in the long run.
