2015 Infiniti Q50 Hybrid Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2015 Infiniti Q50 Hybrid was new.

Interior: 7.5

Most auto writers say the 2015 Infiniti Q50 Hybrid's interior has premium materials and a graceful, unique design. Many of the Q50 Hybrid's tech features are controlled by its dual touch-screen infotainment system, which most reviewers think is easy to use. Some test drivers say the Q50 Hybrid's standard front seats lack sufficient thigh support for taller occupants, but they think the available front sport seats are very comfortable, and that the rear seat has plenty of head- and legroom for most people. As with many hybrids, the Q50 Hybrid has a small trunk for its class.

  • "Both Q50 models feature a well-built interior with plenty of high-tech options and organic styling that sets it apart from other midsize luxury sedans." -- Edmunds
  • "High-gloss maple wood trim or textured matte-finish metal complement the supple leather for a stylish and sophisticated interior. Everything looks and feels first class; Infiniti's attention to detail is evident in the padded surfaces, contrast stitching and expertly fitted panels." -- Cars.com (2014)
  • "The dashboard adopts a new dual-cowl look and features a completely redesigned center stack that's angled toward the driver to emphasize a cockpit-like feel. Materials are a notch or two above the outgoing car, and we really like the way the door panels flow out of the instrument panel in waves that remind of us of the sheetmetal's contours on the other side of the glass." -- Autoblog (2014)
  • "Inside, it's the little details that make a world of difference - the way the wood trim tapers from one side of the console to the other, the gentle, flowing lines of the dual-cowl dash." -- Left Lane News (2014)

The Infiniti Q50 Hybrid seats five and comes standard with leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats and a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Sport seats with additional side support are standard in the Q50S Hybrid, and a heated steering wheel is standard in all-wheel drive models. According to some test drivers, the front seats are too firm and lack adequate thigh support for taller occupants, but critics agree that the sport seats are much more comfortable. Auto writers report that the rear seat has enough head- and legroom for all but the tallest adults.

  • "The standard seats can be overly firm, and taller passengers may desire more thigh support. The sport seats remedy these issues with more supportive bolstering and adjustments. Rear seats are roomy enough for taller adults in terms of head- and legroom." -- Edmunds
  • "Even taller drivers will find the front seat spacious. The bolstered front sport seats are abundantly comfortable - they're deep, wide and long, with a thigh extender for additional support. At 5-foot-5, I easily had enough headroom in the backseat, but my 6-foot-6 passenger rode with his head brushing the ceiling - a common occurrence, he assured me." -- Cars.com (2014)
  • "Overall, though, the Q50 feels bigger everywhere, even in back, where the B-pillar has been resculpted and the front seatbacks slimmed down to make second-row occupants feel less confined." -- Autoblog (2014)

Interior Features

Standard features in the 2015 Q50 Hybrid include a moonroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, a rearview camera and Infiniti's InTouch infotainment system, which includes two touch screens (one above the other on the center stack), Bluetooth, smartphone app integration, two USB ports, auxiliary audio and video inputs, satellite radio, HD Radio and a 14-speaker Bose audio system. Available features include blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning with automatic braking, active lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, navigation, a surround-view camera system and front and rear parking sensors.

Most critics think the Q50 Hybrid's dual-screen infotainment system is easy to use thanks to fast processing times and straightforward menus. Test drivers also appreciate the high-quality Bose stereo and that there are knobs and buttons for common audio and climate controls if you don't want to use the touch screen.

  • "When you're cruising to work or listening to your go-fast playlist, it's critical to have it play through a great audio system. The Q50 sedan's 14-speaker Studio on Wheels by Bose system delivers, with USB inputs and standard HD radio to further expand the listening experience." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Laid out like a list of apps across several screens like your smartphone, rather than a system of menus, the infotainment system works well and is one of the more intuitive ones I've encountered." -- Jalopnik (2014)
  • "As in the Acura RLX, there's two touchscreens mounted on the center stack - an eight-inch unit that displays navigation information, and below that a seven-incher that incorporates audio, climate and drive mode controls. Though quite smudge-prone, both feature simple, intuitive menu layouts and, blessedly, very little lag. Further, strategically-placed redundant buttons for frequently-used stereo and climate functions make it easy even for troglodytes to find things in a hurry." -- Left Lane News (2014)
  • "The menu structures are intuitive and there's no need to panic about the loss of physical controls - most of the audio and climate buttons are still there if you want to opt out of the screens." -- Cars.com (2014)

The 2015 Infiniti Q50 Hybrid has 9.4 cubic feet of trunk space, which is small, even by hybrid standards, and some reviewers note that the Q50 Hybrid's in-cabin storage cubbies and pockets aren't as spacious as those in competing cars.

  • "Interior pockets, bins and cupholders are adequately sized to stow your personal effects, but they're not as generous as those of a few rivals." -- Edmunds
