2010 Infiniti FX Review

The Infiniti FX has excellent performance, but its stiff ride and limited interior space mean others in the class are more practical.

Pros & Cons

  • Great handling
  • Powerful available V8 engine in FX50 models
  • Good fuel economy in base models
  • Outstanding safety scores
  • Poor fuel economy from larger engine
  • Not as much cargo capacity as some rivals
  • Ride quality may be too stiff for some

2010 Infiniti FX Overview

Test drivers found a lot to love about the 2010 Infiniti FX. The FX has fantastic handling and a sport-tuned suspension, and reviewers said V8-powered FX 50 models are extremely fast. Plus, test drivers said its interior is attractively-designed and luxurious, with many high-tech features. Standard features include a nine-speaker Bose sound system, push-button ignition, keyless entry and a backup camera. Options when it was new include a hard-drive navigation system with voice controls and a power tilt and telescoping steering wheel.

The FX may not be for everyone. It sacrifices some rear-seat headroom and cargo space in favor of its bold exterior styling. Though fuel economy from base models is fairly good, gas mileage in FX 50 trims, with their standard all-wheel drive and V8 engines, is poor. Finally, its stiffly-sprung suspension contributes to a ride that may be too firm for some. Overall, the FX is a fantastic combination of sporty performance and SUV-like space, but for ultimate practicality, shoppers may want to look elsewhere.

Other Cars to Consider

If you want an SUV with a smoother ride and more utility, consider the 2010 Lexus RX. It outranks almost all of its rivals with high safety scores, a comfortable ride and impeccable interior. Some test drivers noted that it’s not fun to drive, but drivers who want a smooth, unobtrusive drivetrain and great fuel economy will be happy with the RX.

Those who want an SUV with bolder styling than the Lexus RX, but don’t want to go all-out with the Infiniti FX, will find that the 2010 Lincoln MKX is a good compromise. Its exterior is a bit flashier than the RX’s, but it’s not quite as polarizing as the FX’s.
