2009 Infiniti FX Overview

The 2009 Infiniti FX is a perfect SUV for shoppers who need more cargo space than a sports car can offer but don’t want to give up performance. Test drivers loved the FX for its distinctive styling, and said that it has great handling, which is something that can be hard to find in an SUV. Reviewers also said the Infiniti FX’s interior is impressive, with tons of standard features and high-tech gadgets.

Standard features on the 2009 FX include a power liftgate, leather, dual-zone climate control, a backup camera and a Bose stereo system with a CD changer, auxiliary input and satellite radio. Options were bundled into packages when the FX was new, and include items like heated and ventilated front seats, Bluetooth, an iPod interface and navigation.

Most reviewers agreed that the V6-powered FX 35 likely has enough power for most drivers, but the FX 50’s brawny V8 engine and standard all-wheel drive are must-haves for enthusiasts. However, the Infiniti FX isn’t the most practical SUV. Its fuel economy in V6 models is mediocre, and in V8 models it’s downright bad. The FX also has a poor reliability rating, and its sporty, firm handling may mean its ride is too stiff for some. Other five-seat SUVs have better cargo space, and some reviewers mentioned that its swoopy styling makes rearward visibility an issue.

Overall, the Infiniti FX isn’t the most practical SUV, or the roomiest, but what it lacks in utility, it makes up for in style and performance.

Other Cars to Consider

If you like the FX’s sharp styling, consider the 2009 BMW X6. The X6’s best attribute is its performance; test drivers said it handles like a 2009 BMW 5-Series on stilts. It’s even less practical than the FX (it only seats four), and some reviewers didn’t think it was very easy on the eyes, but for sports car-like performance in an SUV, the X6 is a good choice.

For a more practical and comfortable SUV, consider the 2009 Lexus RX. It’s one of the best luxury crossovers you can buy, with good gas mileage, great reliability, lots of cargo space and a roomy back seat. There’s even a hybrid option. Though the Lexus RX doesn’t have nearly the sporty character of the Infiniti FX or the BMW X6, its luxury car-like ride may appeal to buyers who want the most comfortable SUV possible.
