2011 Infiniti EX Review

The 2011 Infiniti EX is long on sport but short on utility. If you’re just looking for something with great performance, the EX is a good bet, but other 2011 compact SUVs have a better balance of performance and practicality.

Pros & Cons

2011 Infiniti EX Overview

When it was new, reviewers raved about the Infiniti EX’s performance. They said the EX is a great choice among luxury compact SUVs so long as rear passenger space and cargo volume don’t top your priority list.

Powering the EX is a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 297 horsepower, which is far more than most competitors’ base engines. With either rear- or all-wheel drive, the EX achieves an estimated 17/24 mpg city/highway, which is only slightly below the class average. In addition to great power, most reviewers said the EX’s suspension offered a good compromise between sporty handling and a comfortable ride. The EX has high safety ratings like most rivals.

Inside, reviewers liked the design and quality they found, but disliked the amount of space. Most commented that the back seats were cramped. Utility is the EX’s major pitfall, with a maximum of just 47.4 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded, which is less than just about all competitors’ cargo capacities.

The base model comes standard with leather seats, dual-zone climate control, satellite radio and a rearview camera. Features available with option packages or the premium Journey trim include Bluetooth, a power sunroof, a Bose stereo and navigation, as well as advanced safety features like adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning and lane-departure warning. The EX has undergone few changes since it debuted in 2008, so it may be possible to save some money by shopping for an older model.

Other Cars to Consider

If you like the handling of the EX but need something with a bit more cargo room, consider the 2011 BMW X3. The X3’s cargo capacity is much higher than that of the EX, and critics said it has sport sedan-like handling. And if you’re concerned about fuel economy, the X3 is a bit more efficient as well.

Another 2011 compact SUV you may like is the 2011 Volvo XC60. The XC60 is the family-oriented, practical choice in the segment. It has among the most passenger and cargo space, in addition to a bevy of standard safety features. Critics also didn’t mind the way it handles, but said that it’s certainly not the best in class.
