2009 Hyundai Tucson Overview

Though reviewers agreed that the 2009 Hyundai Tucson was an acceptable compact SUV, they also agreed that much of the competition is simply better. Performance-wise, they complained that both the four- and six-cylinder engines on the Tucson are underpowered. While most felt the ride was comfortable, some reviewers complained that it turned harsh when the road got rough. The Tucson’s safety ratings are about average for the class. The Tucson also gets average fuel economy at 22 mpg combined city/highway.

Inside, the Tucson has good standard features, like satellite radio, air conditioning and an auxiliary input jack, but reviewers felt that the material quality needed improvement. Stepping up to a higher trim level will get you cruise control, a navigation system with 700MB of memory and a power sunroof. They also thought that the seats were comfortable and supportive, though the back seat was cramped and best left to two passengers. The Tucson offers a 60/40-split rear seat and a fold-flat front passenger seat. Cargo space is typical for the class, though competitors offer more cabin storage.

Other Cars to Consider

If you’re considering the Tucson, you should take a look at the highly-ranked 2009 Honda CR-V because of its good performance and strong safety scores. When it was new, reviewers thought the CR-V’s interior was comfortable and quiet. In addition, the CR-V gets better fuel economy and has more cargo room.

The 2009 Toyota RAV4 offers a combination of good safety ratings, along with great handling. The RAV4 also has more cargo space, better fuel economy and a more-powerful base engine than the Tucson. The RAV4 also has an available third row.
