The 2009 Hyundai Sonata is a fine affordable midsize car for a wide array of used car shoppers. When it was new, reviewers praised the Sonata’s good fuel economy, pleasing powertrain, high-quality interior and spacious seating for five. They said the Sonata’s biggest detriment was that it lacked personality and any type of sporty nature.

When test drivers evaluated the 2009 Hyundai Sonata’s performance, some disliked its soft suspension and said the steering was numb. However, some reviewers liked the comfortable ride and felt the steering was direct and light. Like many 2009 midsize cars, auto critics said the base four-cylinder engine was adequate and that the available V6 gave them the extra oomph they were looking for.
