The 2019 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid looks good and uses some premium materials, though it lacks the modern styling of some rival cabins. Both rows of seats are comfortable and fairly roomy, and the features list includes plenty of technology. Whether you're looking at the hybrid or the plug-in hybrid, trunk space is subpar for the class.
The Sonata Hybrid seats five and comes standard with cloth upholstery. Leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, power-adjustable front seats, and a heated steering wheel are available.
Both rows of seats are comfortable, and the cabin is generally nice and quiet. The front seats provide plenty of room and ample support. The rear seats have a vast amount of legroom, though taller passengers may wish for a bit more headroom.
There are two full sets of LATCH connectors and a third tether anchor for installing car seats. The tether anchors are easy to find and use, but the lower anchors are set deep in the seat and difficult to maneuver around.
Standard features in the Sonata Hybrid include dual-zone automatic climate control and an infotainment system with a 7-inch touch screen, a USB port, Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a six-speaker audio system.
Available features include a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, and an upgraded infotainment system with an 8-inch touch screen, navigation, an additional USB port, BlueLink, satellite radio, HD Radio, and an Infinity premium audio system. Some of these features – like HD Radio, the additional USB port, and satellite radio – come standard in the Sonata Plug-In Hybrid.
Standard active safety features include a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane change assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and automatic emergency braking. Note that some of these features are not standard in the Sonata PHEV, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and automatic emergency braking.
Available driver assistance features include rear parking sensors, automatic high beams, dynamic bending light (which turns your headlights with the steering wheel to help you see around corners), lane departure warning, and driver drowsiness monitoring.
It's easy to control the Sonata Hybrid's tech features thanks to the easy-to-reach, well-organized controls. There are physical buttons and knobs for some functions. The touch screen is intuitive, and it features sharp graphics and responds quickly to inputs.

The Sonata Hybrid provides 13.4 cubic feet of trunk space. That's not the smallest hybrid trunk out there, but many other hybrids have more cargo space. As a result of its larger battery, the Sonata Plug-In Hybrid has even less space, at 9.9 cubic feet. The cargo floor is flat, giving you a nice spot to load items, and there's plenty of cabin storage space. A hands-free power trunk comes standard. A split-folding rear seat is available in the standard hybrid but not in the PHEV.
