2012 Hyundai Santa Fe Overview

The 2012 Santa Fe comes standard with a four-cylinder engine that reviewers said has sufficient power for around-town driving, but could use more pep for highway passing. Most test drivers agreed that V6 models feel substantially quicker without much of a fuel economy penalty. The four-cylinder Santa Fe is rated at up to an EPA-estimated 20/28 mpg city/highway, which is great for the class, while V6 models earn similar ratings, with up to 20/26 mpg. A six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive are standard and all-wheel drive is available. Some critics said the Santa Fe's ride is a bit firm and doesn't always feel controlled over imperfect roads. They also noted that the steering has an artificial feel, the brake pedal feels a bit spongy and that while the handling is controlled, the Santa Fe’s overall driving experience is somewhat dull.

Most reviewers said the 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe's interior has good fit and finish, with a mix of hard plastics and soft-touch materials. According to some test drivers, the available sunroof may limit front-seat headroom for taller drivers, and the bottom seat cushion may not be long enough for maximum comfort. While the Santa Fe’s back seat doesn’t slide or recline, most critics agreed that it is spacious and comfortable. A six-speaker stereo, Bluetooth and a USB port are standard, while navigation, a 10-speaker Infinity stereo system and a rearview camera are available. The Santa Fe offers up to 78.2 cubic feet of cargo space, which is good for a two-row midsize SUV.

Other SUVs to Consider

The 2012 Nissan Murano earned praise for its nimble handling and potent V6 engine when it was new. Additionally, test drivers were impressed with the Murano's upscale cabin materials.

The 2012 Honda Crosstour has good fuel economy for the class, and reviewers liked its comfortable and composed ride.
