2009 Hyundai Santa Fe Overview

The 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe isn’t a bad SUV, but many of its competitors provide a better combination of performance and interior quality. Its available third row of seats is cramped and uncomfortable for adults. While its performance is adequate, the Santa Fe doesn't measure up to competitors that offer more power, a better ride and better handling. Test drivers said the Santa Fe's interior may have been one of Hyundai's best up until then, but even so, the Santa Fe's cabin has trouble standing out in the competitive class of 2009 midsize SUVs.

The Santa Fe does, however, have some strong benefits for used car shoppers. Its fuel economy is above-average, even in four-wheel drive models. It comes standard with a 2.7-liter V6 engine and features like a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, manually-adjustable front seats and wood-grain trim. Higher trims offer heated, power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control and leather upholstery.

Other Cars to Consider

If you like the Santa Fe but want a more comfortable ride, sleeker looks and better fuel economy, take a look at the highly-ranked 2009 Toyota Venza. The Venza doesn’t offer a third-row seat like the Santa Fe, but test drivers loved its upscale cabin and smooth handling. The Venza also boasts excellent safety ratings.

The 2009 Chevrolet Traverse offers one of the only adult-sized third rows in the class, and it’s fairly maneuverable for such a big SUV. The Traverse also matches the Santa Fe’s good safety scores. As a result, test drivers agreed that when it was new, the 2009 Traverse was one of the best-rounded SUVs in its class.
