2009 Hyundai Genesis Overview

When it was new, test drivers said that the rear-wheel drive Genesis accelerates quickly and shifts smoothly, especially if equipped with the available V8 engine. However, most also noted that while the Genesis has a comfortable ride, it lacks the sport-sedan handling of cars like the 2009 BMW 5-Series.  Additionally, the 2009 Genesis is not available with all-wheel drive, which is a common option on many of its rivals. Fuel economy is a tick above-average for the class, as the base V6 Genesis gets 18/27 mpg city/highway.

Inside, the Genesis was well-liked by reviewers. They thought that the 2009 Genesis was spacious and comfortable in both the front and back seats. Additionally, they noted that the cabin stays quiet, even at highway speeds. For the most part, auto critics liked the Genesis’ standard leather seats, but preferred the optional premium seats for comfort and quality. With a great sound system and loads of other standard features, the 2009 Genesis is better equipped than most rivals. The Genesis’ 15.9 cubic feet of trunk space is also impressive for the class. However, a number of test drivers noted that while the trunk is sizeable, the rear seats don’t fold down to expand cargo space. Still, the Genesis does have a pass-through for longer items.

The base 2009 Genesis comes with a competitive number of standard features which include heated power front seats, leather, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth and a stereo with satellite radio and a USB port. A technology package adds features like front and rear parking sensors, navigation, a backup camera and a ventilated driver’s seat.

As a used car, the 2009 Genesis also carries the best possible safety ratings, which should appeal to most buyers in search of a used luxury car.

Other Cars to Consider

If you’re looking for a car that can match the Genesis, consider the 2008 Acura RL. The RL comes with standard all-wheel drive, which isn’t available on the Genesis. When it was new, reviewers thought that the RL was an excellent sedan if you experience harsh weather, though like the Genesis, it lacks the sporty handling of more performance-oriented rivals.

The 2009 Audi A6 also matches the RL’s top safety score and provides a luxuriously-appointed interior. While a bit pricier than the 2009 Genesis, it has great performance, particularly with the powerful 3.0T trim that reviewers raved about, and includes standard all-wheel drive.
