2015 Hyundai Equus Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2015 Hyundai Equus was new.

Interior: 8.1

Taken on its own, most test drivers are impressed with the rich, luxurious quality of the 2015 Hyundai Equus’ cabin materials. Still, some critics remark that the Equus' cabin lacks the design flair and precise details that set apart more established luxury sedans. The Equus has limousine-like rear-seat space, according to test drivers, who also note that the infotainment system is easy to operate and the standard Lexicon stereo system has great sound quality.

  • "While it's fair to say the leather and genuine wood lining the cabin may not be quite as world-class as the trimmings in some of the Equus' high-dollar competitors, the design and materials still create a space that's stylish, elegant and comfortable. It's also remarkably quiet." -- Edmunds
  • "Roomy and opulent are the best two ways of describing the Equus' 5-passenger interior. Sumptuous leather and wood are the materials of choice. Every aspect of the Equus has been designed for driver and passenger comfort." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Rich-looking materials like genuine wood trim, supple leather, French-stitched accents and a microfiber suede headliner continue to cover nearly ever surface. …" -- Left Lane News
  • "With all of this in mind, the quality, details and materials in the Equus just are not the same as you would find in a BMW, Lexus, Audi or Mercedes-Benz. When you're in an S-class, the leather feels straight from a cow and the wood looks like it was hand cut. The Equus is nice, but you don't get that same attention to detail as you would in the other luxury brands." -- AutoWeek (2014)

The Equus seats five and comes standard with leather upholstery, front seats that are heated, cooled and power-adjustable, a heated steering wheel, heated and power-reclining rear seats and a power rear sunshade. The Ultimate trim also gets cooled rear seats and power sunshades on the rear doors. The 2015 Equus' front seats are comfortable and spacious, reviewers report. Most find the back seats very impressive, noting that the standard reclining seats, which offer ample space, give the Equus a premium, luxurious feel. The cabin is also praised for its quietness.

  • "… it isn't difficult to find a good spot behind the wheel. Where the Equus really stands out is in rear-seat accommodations. In Korea these cars are used as livery for high-profile executives, and it's easy to see why. With generous legroom, climate-controlled seats, shaded windows and even power lumbar support, sitting back there makes anyone feel like a VIP." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Noise-reducing measures like an acoustic laminated window glass and extensive sound insulation ensure that passengers are well isolated from road, engine and wind din." -- Left Lane News
  • "That old saying about there not being a bad seat in the house could easily apply to the interior of the 2015 Equus. The highly adjustable front seats are a pleasure to settle into, even in warm weather, as the built-in ventilation system circulates chilled air through the perforated leather upholstery to provide relief from hot, muggy days. The rear seats offer more than just generous head- and legroom, including uncommon comforts like power-reclining seatbacks and heated seats. …" -- Edmunds
  • "The real experience for the Equus is being a passenger. Get into the back seat and you feel like you're a government diplomat. You're greeted by seats that recline, move forward and give you ample leg room. Optional dual monitors behind the driver and passenger seat display movies, media and the navigation screen while the rear console can control just about everything in the car from the radio to the seat in front of you." -- AutoWeek (2014)

  • "Tell an audiophile friend that you have a Lexicon system in your car and you'll immediately be envied. Tell them it's in a Hyundai and they might think you're crazy. But Lexicon, known for ultra-expensive home audio systems, provides the exquisite soundtrack in the Equus as standard." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Both versions of the Equus come with a 9.2-inch display for the navigation system. It's pretty easy to use, too, as most infotainment functionality is controlled via a rotary knob on the center console." -- Edmunds (2014)
  • "The dash cluster graphics are neat though, and the infotainment system is intuitive and easy to read and use. The Lexicon sound system in the Equus is excellent. Turn the bass up loud enough and you can nearly shatter the windows." -- AutoWeek (2014)

The 2015 Equus has 16.7 cubic feet of trunk space, which is typical for the class. Test drivers are pleased with the Equus’ luggage capacity, saying it fits large, cumbersome items with ease.

  • "As a road trip machine, the Equus offers a spacious trunk with 16.7 cubic feet of cargo room. Folding down one or both sections of the 60/40-split rear seatbacks can expand that space so you can squeeze in longer items and still be able to shut the trunk." -- Edmunds
  • "As for trunk space, it measures an impressive 16.7 cu ft." -- AutoTrader (2014)
  • "I was able to fit a very large, square box - I bought a new garden hose reel - with no problems. It's just the sort of bulky item most trunks aren't able to handle." -- Cars.com (2013)
