Note: This interior review was created when the 2016 Hyundai Azera was new.

Scorecard

Interior: 8.5

Reviewers say that the 2016 Hyundai Azera has handsome interior styling. The materials are mostly premium, though a few cheap plastic panels diminish the overall appeal. The Azera has a long list of standard features for the class. Its infotainment features are easy to use thanks to their simple controls. The Azera's front seats are comfortable. Rear-seat legroom is excellent, and rear-seat headroom is good, though some taller passengers may disagree. Trunk space is average for the class.

  • Like most sedans in this class, the 2016 Hyundai Azera's interior has a distinctly upscale feel and appearance, though it's cheapened somewhat by the brittle, shiny plastics used in some places." -- Edmunds
  • "The flowing lines continue inside, where passengers are treated to upscale materials and first-class space at all five seating positions." -- Left Lane News (2015)
  • "And hey, the whole dashboard looks exceptionally sharp and sophisticated. …" -- AutoTrader (2014)
  • "… [T]he Azera’s cabin, like its exterior, strikes a strong resemblance to the Sonata’s, thanks to a Y-shaped center stack/dash layout. Yet, the materials, save for the uninspiring gray plastic on the center console, are a clear notch above." -- Motor Trend (2012)

Seating

The 2016 Hyundai Azera seats five and comes standard with leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel.

Sunshades are available for the back window (power) and the rear side windows (manual).

The Azera's front seats are spacious, as you'd expect in this segment, and they offer plenty of support. The rear seats have generous legroom, but you may find headroom tight if you're tall.

  • There's lots of legroom front and rear, but taller passengers will find headroom a bit snug in the backseat." -- Edmunds
  • "In our interior evaluation, we found the Azera's front seats to be unusually supportive for this segment, even featuring some lateral bolstering. We're fans." -- AutoTrader (2014)
  • Legroom is outstanding, but the sloping roofline means headroom is somewhat stingy." -- Consumer Guide (2013 rear seat)
  • "Driver and passenger have more room than they'll ever need; our fully grown rear-seat occupant rode in complete comfort, even after we jacked the driver's seat all the way back in a thinly veiled attempt to shatter his ankles." -- Car and Driver (2012)

Interior Features

The 2016 Hyundai Azera comes standard with an 8-inch touch screen, navigation, a rearview camera, proximity keys, a 14-speaker Infinity surround-sound audio system, Bluetooth, a USB port, HD Radio, satellite radio, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, dual-zone automatic climate control, and Siri Eyes Free iPhone integration.

Available features include a panoramic sunroof, rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning. Adaptive cruise control is a new option for the 2016 model year.

The Azera has an impressive number of standard features for the class, including blind spot monitoring and navigation. Its infotainment features are easy to use because you can control many of them with buttons and knobs instead of sorting through touch-screen menus. Its standard stereo system delivers excellent sound quality.

  • "Even the base Azera comes chock full of stuff, including some desirable driver-assistance systems like a blind-spot warning system and rear cross-traffic alert. … The design of the dashboard and the center stack is appealing in its minimalist execution, thanks to last year's revised center stack that adds some buttons and knobs for functions that formerly required you to wade through the touchscreen's menus." -- Edmunds
  • "It offers more convenience and infotainment technologies than any of its competitors. …" -- Kelley Blue Book (2015)
  • "The [standard Infinity] Logic 7 system and its eight-inch subwoofer made the most of the rich details of ‘Lush Life’ by Johnny Coltrane and John Hartman. Gotta love the huge, rotating volume-control knob that sits prominently in the center stack." -- Automobile Magazine (2012)

Cargo

The 2016 Hyundai Azera has 16.3 cubic feet of trunk space, which is typical for a large sedan. The Azera's trunk is large enough for a few big suitcases or golf bags, but to get them in you’ll need to lift them high.

  • "… [T]his trunk will easily swallow large suitcases or several sets of golf clubs." -- Edmunds
  • The trunk, which holds a generous 16.3 cubic feet, is deep and wide but has a fairly high liftover height that older buyers might not appreciate." -- Automobile Magazine (2012)
