2012 Hyundai Azera Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2012 Hyundai Azera was new.

Interior: 8.4

Only a handful of reviewers have gotten some seat time in the redesigned 2012 Hyundai Azera, but they generally agree that the new model is a significant improvement from the outgoing 2011 Azera. They draw comparisons to upscale cars from Acura and Lexus, thanks to the Azera’s many standard features and high-quality materials. Additionally, most note that the Azera has plenty of space for passengers in the front and rear rows. They’ll be comfortable as well, thanks to standard features like front and rear heated seats.

  • "My brain was having a hard time processing the notion that I was in an Azera and not an Acura or Lexus, but I shouldn't have been surprised: every new Hyundai model in recent years has been a quantum leap over its direct predecessor in terms of design, styling, engineering, and perceived quality, and the Azera is no exception." -- Automobile Magazine
  • "Especially when upgraded with the Technology Package, the 2012 Hyundai Azera's passenger cabin isn't just the most appealing in the category, it puts some luxury cars to shame." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "A standard seven-inch navigation touchscreen dominates the center stack, and brushed accent trim provides a nice contrast to the soft touch cover and gloss trim spread elsewhere across the dash." -- Autoblog

Most reviewers praise the 2012 Azera for its spacious, comfortable seats. Soft, heated leather seats are standard, front and rear, and both front seats are power-adjustable.

  • "Adjusting the driver's seat for my five-foot, eleven-inch frame and then sitting in the rear seat directly behind, I was surprised by the plentiful foot, knee, and leg room." -- Automobile Magazine
  • "Driver and passenger have more room than they'll ever need; our fully grown rear-seat occupant rode in complete comfort, even after we jacked the driver's seat all the way back in a thinly veiled attempt to shatter his ankles." -- Car and Driver
  • "The glove-soft leather seating surfaces seem straight out of a Genesis." -- Motor Trend
  • "Rear passengers will find the Azera a bit more cramped than other alternatives in the segment, however." -- Autoblog
  • "The seats are not only power-adjustable and comfortable even for finicky drivers with troublesome backs, but they include a built-in impact-absorbing structure that the company says reduces head and neck injuries by 17 percent compared to the seats in the old car." -- MSNBC

Interior Features

Hyundai has made a name for itself by offering a competitive number of features, and the 2012 Azera continues that trend with electronics that are often high-dollar options in other affordable large cars. These include standard navigation, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, push-button start and dual-zone climate control.

In addition to its myriad of tech features, early reports indicate that test drivers like the 2012 Azera’s interior materials. Many liken the Azera’s interior to the Acura TL and Lexus ES, which is high praise for an affordable large car.

  • "The Logic 7 system and its eight-inch subwoofer made the most of the rich details of ‘Lush Life’ by Johnny Coltrane and John Hartman. Gotta love the huge, rotating volume-control knob that sits prominently in the center stack." -- Automobile Magazine
  • "The driver is treated to a contoured, leather-wrapped steering wheel complete with all of the buttons necessary to control the vehicle's various systems." -- Autoblog

Only a handful of reviewers have commented on the Azera’s 16.3 cubic feet of trunk space, but those who have note it’s a competitive amount of room. If you need more space, consider the Ford Taurus, which has 20.1 cubic feet for cargo.

  • "The trunk, which holds a generous 16.3 cubic feet, is deep and wide but has a fairly high liftover height that older buyers might not appreciate." -- Automobile Magazine
  • "Trunk volume measures a competitive 16.3 cubic feet." -- Cars.com
