2010 Hyundai Accent Overview

If you’re looking for much beyond good fuel economy and interior space, you won’t find it in the 2010 Hyundai Accent, which is available as a sedan and hatchback. The base Accent has few standard features. To get interior features such as air conditioning or a stereo, and safety features like anti-lock brakes and electronic brake-force distribution, you have to choose the GS trim or higher. Not only does the Accent lack standard safety equipment, but its crash test scores are also below-average.

The Accent gets up to 27/36 mpg city/highway with its 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. Although its fuel economy ratings are high, reviewers weren’t impressed with the Accent’s sluggish acceleration. While it was one of the least expensive cars on the market when it was new, other cars in the class are better all-around choices.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2010 Toyota Yaris, which is also available as a sedan and hatchback, is a good alternative to the Hyundai Accent. The Yaris has more standard interior and safety features, as well as higher safety scores. Like the Accent, the Yaris doesn’t have a lot of space for rear passengers, but the Yaris sedan has about as much trunk space as the Accent sedan. The Yaris hatchback, however, has less cargo space than the Accent hatchback.

The 2009 Ford Focus has higher safety ratings, as well as better performance, than the 2010 Accent. If you choose the Focus, you’ll also have access to Ford’s available voice-activated Sync infotainment system. The Focus sedan and coupe have more cargo space than the Accent sedan, but the hatchback has less than the Accent hatchback.
