The Sportiest Veloster Brings New Interest to the Compact Segment

The Hyundai Veloster, first introduced in 2012, was a good idea that initially fell short of its promise. In terms of performance and features, it was basically an Elantra wrapped up in a sporty-looking hatchback package.

The Veloster Turbo, introduced in 2013, offered 201 horsepower and a personality to back up its looks.

The Veloster lineup has never been one of Hyundai’s best sellers, but Hyundai appears fine with that, and there was enough interest for a full redesign for 2019.

Now, the all-new Veloster N joins the Veloster lineup, featuring exclusive styling and a noteworthy bump in horsepower. It’s Hyundai’s best attempt yet at a true driver’s car – for example, it’s available only with a manual transmission.

Can the Veloster keep up with its more established hot hatchback rivals? Is it worth the extra money compared to the Veloster Turbo R-Spec? Keep reading to find out.
