2007 Hummer H3 Review

Note: This review was created when the 2007 Hummer H3 was new.

The H3 demonstrates terrific off-road prowess in a distinctive, rugged package, but can't match the on-road performance or comfort of others in its class. If you're in the market for an affordable midsize SUV with off-roading abilities, you should also consider the Toyota 4Runner and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Pros & Cons

  • Excellent off-road capabilities
  • Clean interior design with a functional focus
  • Exceptional and award-winning resale value
  • Engine is noisy and underpowered for the heavy H3
  • Brake performance is mediocre at best
  • Uncomfortable seating position and awkward entry/exit

2007 Hummer H3 Overview

Reviewers generally agree that the 2007 Hummer H3 boasts great off-road capability, but just mediocre highway performance. "If you want a comfortable, car-like SUV, go buy one, there are dozens to choose from," says Edmunds. "But if it's a hard-core, go-anywhere truck that lights your fire, the...Hummer H3 delivers." The H3 is more fuel-efficient than the larger Hummer models, but still uses a considerable amount of gas. The H3 "may be the baby bear of its clan," says Motor Week, "but it has all the DNA of the original. Indeed, we think it is just right."

The H3 is the least expensive of the Hummers. The base price may be high for its class, but for serious off-road driving enthusiasts, it's worth the cost. "Going off-road?" asks The Washington Post. "The H3 is a buy." IntelliChoice gives the 2007 Hummer H3 a value rating of "excellent" for its total predicted cost of five-year ownership, compared to vehicles in its class. The H3 is also an IntelliChoice Best in Class winner for "Best Overall Value of the Year - Intermediate Utility" and for "Highest Retained Value."

The Hummer H3 has two available trims: the base H3 (with the optional Adventure and Luxury packages) and the H3x. All models have a choice of the standard five-speed manual transmission or the optional automatic transmission.
