2019 Honda Ridgeline Interior Review

Interior: 8.3

The 2019 Honda Ridgeline has one of the most upscale and spacious cabins in the class. There are soft-touch materials throughout, and the cabin remains quiet even at high speeds. Two rows of seats comfortably accommodate adults, and the bed offers a number of features you can't get in rival trucks. Speaking of features, the Ridgeline offers a litany of driver assistance technology, but its touch-screen infotainment system can be confusing at times.

  • "This is a very nicely trimmed truck interior. The material choices and overall design have a family-friendly sophistication that trucks usually don't even bother to attempt, especially in the midsize arena. It's a cut above the rest." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "The Honda's cabin tech offerings are on par with my favorite Chevrolet Colorado's and head-and-shoulders better than the Tacoma's Entune setup. Factor in its much more spacious cabin, quieter ride and ability to fit bulky items inside its cabin thanks to its flexible rear seating, and the Honda starts to look pretty good." -- CNET (2017)
  • "As before, the interior of the Ridgeline positively embarrasses the competition. It feels enormous and comfortable front and rear." -- Car and Driver (2017)

The Ridgeline only comes in a crew cab body style. It seats five and comes standard with cloth upholstery and a reconfigurable rear seat that lets you fold up the seat bottoms for extra storage space. Available features include leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.

There's plenty of cabin space in the Ridgeline. Both rows of seats have ample space for adult passengers. The front seats provide plenty of support for long trips, and drivers will appreciate the excellent forward visibility.

There are three full sets of LATCH connectors for installing car seats. The system is generally easy to use once you locate the anchors, though the lower anchors are set deep in the seat, and the tether anchors are hard to find.

  • "The Ridgeline easily offers the driver and passengers more space than any other midsize crew-cab truck. The differences are most noticeable in terms of the cabin's interior width at the hip and shoulder and in head- and legroom in the rear seats." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "The Ridgeline's front seats offer all-day comfort with good thigh support. There is plenty of headroom in either seat, but the dashboard does somewhat intrude on passenger foot room, though not enough to be a serious complaint. The Ridgeline offers the most passenger volume of any mid-size pickup and rear seat passengers are the biggest beneficiaries of that fact. Even those over six-feet tall will find more than enough head and legroom. … The seating position in the Ridgeline is the best in the mid-size category. You have a more commanding view of the road in the Ridgeline than in the Chevy Colorado and there's no issue of a 'chopped' roofline obstructing outward visibility like in the Toyota Tacoma." -- Left Lane News (2017)
  • "It's roomy inside, with more hip and shoulder room than the Chevy Colorado or Toyota Tacoma." -- Autoblog (2017)

Interior Features

Standard features in the Ridgeline include a rearview camera, push-button start, and a seven-speaker audio system with two USB ports, Bluetooth, and a 5-inch center stack display screen.

Available features include an in-bed power outlet, a truck bed audio system, a power-sliding rear window, a moonroof, tri-zone automatic climate control, HD Radio, satellite radio, and an 8-inch touch-screen audio system with navigation, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Pandora compatibility, and Siri Eyes Free, which lets you send texts, check emails, and more using voice commands.

Available active safety features include Honda LaneWatch (a passenger-side blind spot camera), blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors. The Honda Sensing suite of driver assistance technologies is available as well. It includes collision mitigation braking, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, road departure mitigation, and adaptive cruise control.

The Ridgeline offers an abundance of driver assistance features; most compact trucks don't come close to matching the Honda in that regard. You can get plenty of tech features as well, including several smartphone connectivity options. However, the available touch-screen infotainment system has a less user-friendly interface than some rivals' systems.

  • The Ridgeline plays well with smartphones, with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto available on higher trims. However, we're not fans of the 8-inch touchscreen audio system because of the poor user-interface experience." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • Tech features are another area in which the Ridgeline's more civilized roots place it ahead of the class's top sellers. Adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning and automatic braking, lane-departure warning and assist, and blind-spot monitors are all available. There's also Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but no matter how much tech you pack in, we're a long way from accepting Honda's touchscreen infotainment system, which is organized about as logically as the tiles on your Samsung Galaxy's home screen when you turned it on for the first time in the store." -- Car and Driver (2017)
  • "Buyers will also appreciate convenience technologies like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and available Garmin navigation." -- Left Lane News (2017)

The Ridgeline's bed is arguably the most versatile of any truck on the market. It's made of a reinforced composite material, so it doesn't need a bed liner. It's also wide enough to hold 4-foot wide items (like sheets of plywood) between the wheel wells. On the downside, some rivals' beds are lower to the ground, making it easier to load cargo into them than into this Honda. Also, the bed is only about 5-feet-4-inches long. Most rivals offer longer beds.

Most trucks' tailgates only open by folding down. The Ridgeline's does that too, but it can also swing open to the side, like a car door. There's an in-bed storage trunk that features a built-in drain plug. An in-bed audio system and AC power outlet are available.

You get plenty of small-item storage space in the cabin, and the rear seats flip up, giving you room to haul bigger items in the cabin, such as a flat-screen television or a bicycle. There's also ample room under the rear seats, even when they're not folded up.

  • "No midsize truck comes close. The Ridgeline's rear seat bottoms flip up to reveal a broad, flat load floor, but the underseat area can still accommodate a medium golf bag with the seats in use. The crowning jewel is the lockable in-bed trunk, which can hold multiple suitcases or a large ice chest." -- Edmunds
  • "There's a downside to the bed-based tech: height. The tailgate and bed floor of the Ridgeline are noticeably higher than in the Colorado or Tacoma—about on par with a much higher-riding, heavy-duty full-size truck. This can make it tougher to get items up and into the bed, especially for shorter users." -- Automobile Magazine (2017)
  • "About that tailgate: as was the case before, the Ridgeline has the innovative combination of a traditional tailgate plus a station wagon-like side-hinged action. The in-bed trunk also returns. It's large enough to hold a big cooler or a golf bag, and is very easy to access (as long as you don't have a lot of rocks or cargo in the bed). The trunk also has a drain plug, welcome when tailgating." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)
