2020 Honda Odyssey Interior Review

Interior: 9.1

The 2020 Odyssey has contemporary styling and first-class materials that give it a more upscale feel than most minivans. The cabin boasts three rows of comfortable, spacious seats and many high-tech features, including a user-friendly infotainment system and a few smartphone integration functions. Few vehicles offer as much cargo space as the Odyssey.

  • "Besides being packed with practicality-enhancing features and technologies, the 2020 Honda Odyssey boasts a high degree of fit and finish that transcends the typical soccer shuttle. All the requisite cup holders and cubbies are in place, and the quality of materials is high. We also find the interior design to be both smart and pleasing." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Overall, the Odyssey looks modern and upscale inside, with leather seats and soft-touch material on most surfaces that you come in contact with. Everything is solidly put together with consistent panel gaps and tolerances; there were no squeaks or rattles during our test period." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "The interior of the new Odyssey is modern looking and nicely laid out. It's a good combination of functional and premium. Still, we think the Chrysler Pacifica … has a more luxurious feel inside even though the Honda offers more tech features." -- Autotrader (2018)

The Odyssey seats up to eight people on standard spill-resistant cloth upholstery. Upper trims remove the standard second-row bench seat for two captain's chairs. This reduces seating capacity to seven.

A power-adjustable driver's seat is standard. Available amenities include leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a heated steering wheel, a 12-way power-adjustable driver's seat with memory settings, power-sliding doors, and Magic Slide second-row seats, which adjust laterally, backward, and forward.

All three rows have comfortable and supportive seats that are easily accessible and offer plenty of headroom and legroom. Even the third row has adult-friendly space. Outward visibility is good all-around.

For securing child safety seats, there are complete sets of LATCH connectors for the second-row seats and the outboard third-row seats. There's an upper tether for the third row's middle seat.

  • "For added convenience, the Odyssey’s 2nd-row seats slide fore and aft or side to side. This allows siblings to sit in one row while the Odyssey maintains a convenient central path to access the rearmost seat. For improved access to an infant in a child safety seat, the Odyssey’s center seat can be moved all the way forward." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The front seats are soft in all the right places and are extremely accommodating and comfortable, while the lower dashboard has been pushed forward to create more front-seat knee room. The second-row buckets are similarly comfy, one advantage of not having to be slim enough to fold into the floor like the Pacifica's do." -- Car and Driver (2018)
  • "The seats are comfortable in all three rows, and even the third row should be spacious enough for most adults – at least if the second-row seats are not all the way back. The third row also has generously sized side windows with a relatively low beltline, which makes the area feel a little less closed-in. There are cushy flip-down armrests on the second-row seats and adjustable inboard armrests on the front seats." -- Consumer Guide (2018)

Interior Features

Honda’s excellent touch-screen infotainment system comes standard in all but the base trim. With logically arranged menus, a responsive touch screen, and reconfigurable icons, this system is a piece of cake to operate. The dashboard also has physical buttons for many features. Plus, most trims offer convenient smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which allow you to access some device functions and apps through the dashboard touch screen.

Standard features include a multi-angle rearview camera, remote entry, push-button start, a 5-inch display, a seven-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, and two USB ports.

Options include an 8-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, HD Radio, satellite radio, a moonroof, navigation, voice recognition, a rear-seat Blu-ray entertainment system, a Wi-Fi hot spot, an 11-speaker sound system, park assist, blind spot monitoring with cross traffic alert, a wireless device charger, and the Honda Sensing suite of driver assistance features. Honda Sensing includes pre-collision braking, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, road departure warning, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control.

Honda also offers CabinControl (which lets you control the rear-seat entertainment system and climate settings and send destinations to the Odyssey's navigation system with your smartphone), CabinTalk (which acts like a PA system, letting the driver communicate with second- and third-row passengers using a microphone), HondaVAC (an in-vehicle vacuum), CabinWatch (which uses a camera to provide a view of the second and third rows on the touch screen), and HondaLink, which is a subscription service that gives you remote access to your minivan.

  • "The Odyssey dash (all but the entry-level LX) features a digital gauge cluster and a big 8-inch touch screen. Also, all models except the LX have standard Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, which we use regularly and find very helpful." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "This new Odyssey is the most tech-heavy family car we've seen so of course Wi-Fi is available – you can even control some in-car functions via smartphone." -- Autotrader (2018)
  • "The Display Audio interface boasts an 8-inch high-resolution screen with large, clear graphics, smartphone-like pinch-and-swipe capability, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto functionality, and noticeably quicker response times than previous Honda systems we've tested." -- Consumer Guide (2018)

The Odyssey has 38.6 cubic feet of cargo space with all seats in use. It provides 92 cubic feet with the third row folded and 158 cubic feet with both the second and third rows folded. The third-row seats are easy to fold to create a nearly flat cargo floor. However, you must remove the second-row seats to get maximum cargo space, and it's not an easy task. The cabin features several small-item storage compartments. A power liftgate and a hands-free power liftgate are optional.

  • "Two adults and a child can fit in the Odyssey’s third row, which flips and disappears almost magically into the deep cargo hold for added storage space." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The storage well behind the third row is always useful for grocery bags. Those third-row seats aren't power-operated, but the strap and handle system is easy enough to use. … The second-row seats are bulky and hard to remove." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "Small-item storage spots abound. There are two tiers of storage trays in the front doors, a large purse shelf at the leading edge of the front console, and a deep – but not particularly long – covered storage bin in the center console. The front console has four cupholders – two at the front and two in the back – but they might not hold super-sized beverages." -- Consumer Guide (2018)
