2012 Honda Odyssey Overview

Reviewers said the 2012 Honda Odyssey’s standard V6 engine has plenty of power whether you’re pulling away from a stoplight or merging onto the interstate. With an EPA-estimated 18/27 mpg city/highway, the Odyssey’s fuel economy is typical for the class. Test drivers agreed that the Odyssey is one of the best-handling 2012 minivans on the market, saying they were very impressed by its cornering ability. A smooth ride over imperfect roads and on long highway cruises also impressed reviewers. Critics said the Odyssey’s brakes offer consistent, strong stopping power, and they appreciated the minivan’s light, communicative steering system.

Automotive journalists agreed that the 2012 Honda Odyssey has a very well-built interior with premium materials, though some reviewers were a bit overwhelmed by the number of buttons in higher trims. Critics said that every seat in the seven-seat Odyssey is roomy and comfortable, even in the third row. The Odyssey has a maximum of 148.5 cubic feet of cargo space, which is excellent for the class. The Honda Odyssey comes standard with a power-adjustable driver’s seat and a five-speaker audio system with an auxiliary input. Available features include a second-row center seat that brings total seating capacity to eight, a moonroof, power-sliding doors, tri-zone automatic climate control, navigation, a rearview camera, Bluetooth, blind spot monitoring, a cooled storage bin, leather seats, a rear-seat entertainment system, satellite radio and a USB input.

The 2012 Honda Odyssey’s safety score is excellent for the class. Because it offers the best combination of positive reviews, safety, interior space and family-friendly features, we named the Odyssey the 2012 Best Minivan for Families.

Other Minivans to Consider

The 2012 Toyota Sienna has one of the largest cargo areas of any 2012 minivan, and critics said it has spacious seating in all three rows. It is also one of the only minivans available with all-wheel drive.

Reviewers loved the 2012 Mazda5 because it has nimble handling and superb fuel economy for the class. Though it is one of the smallest minivans on the market, critics said the Mazda5 can still offer comfortable seating for four adults in the first two rows and two children in the third.
