2010 Honda Insight Review

The 2010 Honda Insight has decent performance and fuel economy for a hybrid, as well as an above-average safety score.

Pros & Cons

  • Good driver engagement for a hybrid
  • Excellent fuel economy
  • High safety ratings
  • Cramped rear seat

2010 Honda Insight Overview

With a 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor, the 2010 Honda Insight gets up to 40/43 mpg city/highway, which is outstanding for the class. The Insight’s performance is somewhat different than gas-only 2010 small cars, but test drivers thought it drives well for a hybrid. Several said the Insight is more engaging than the 2010 Toyota Prius, but they also said other small cars have better performance overall. Front-seat comfort is also good, but like a lot of small cars, the Insight’s rear row is tight.

The 2010 Honda Insight has a standard features list that’s typical for the class. Inside, it comes with air conditioning, a four-speaker stereo and an auxiliary input jack. You can also get a model with navigation. Its standard safety features include anti-lock brakes and electronic brake-force distribution. To get electronic stability control, you have to choose the EX trim.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2010 Honda Civic Hybrid has slightly better fuel economy than the Insight does, but it also has less cargo space. Like the Insight, the Civic Hybrid has a cramped back seat, but unlike the Insight, it comes with a lot of standard features.

Of course, if you’re thinking of getting a hybrid in the same price range, you’re probably thinking about the 2009 Toyota Prius. The 2009 Toyota Prius gets eight more miles per gallon in the city than the Insight, and five more miles per gallon combined. The two have about the same amount of cargo space, but the Prius has slightly more passenger room than the Insight.
