2020 Honda Fit Interior Review

Interior: 8.0

The 2020 Honda Fit has one of the roomiest and most comfortable cabins in the class. The interior materials have a quality look and feel, with only the occasional hard-plastic surface here and there. Adults have room to stretch out in the front and back, while Honda’s inventive rear Magic Seat gives you more ways to haul cargo than other subcompact cars.

  • "Cleanly styled and well assembled from quality materials, the Fit's interior shines among the best in the segment." -- Car and Driver
  • "Soft-touch materials adorn the 5-seat Fit cabin, along with attractive silver-accent trim." -- Kelley Blue Book (2019)
  • "The Fit may not be as comfy or as upscale as its bigger Honda siblings, but interior materials are still a cut above the rest. The cabin even looks pretty cool, especially with the available touchscreen interface." -- Autotrader (2017)

The five-seat Honda Fit comes standard with cloth upholstery. Leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel are available.

Headroom and legroom are generous in both rows, and rear-seat legroom in particular eclipses that of most rivals.

For installing child safety seats, there are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats, as well as a third tether anchor for the rear middle seat.

  • "In most dimensions, the Fit's cabin is the largest in the subcompact class. Its rear-seat area in particular is astonishingly roomy and has significantly more legroom than any direct competitor; it nearly matches that of some full-size sedans." -- Car and Driver
  • "Four adults fit without effort. The driver's seat doesn't provide the combination of seat height and thigh support that I prefer, but when I consider such a complaint, I must remember that getting a leather-wrapped tilt/telescopic steering wheel and a seat height adjuster in such an inexpensive car is something of a miracle." -- New York Daily News (2018)
  • "The flexible interior, with its multiple backseat configurations and copious headroom for all occupants, is a favorite of mine in this segment. The Fit is one of the few with a backseat I'd feel comfortable asking adults to sit in for an extended period." -- (2018)

Interior Features

The Fit comes standard with a 5-inch infotainment display, a four-speaker stereo, a USB port, Bluetooth, and a rearview camera. All models above the base trim feature a 7-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, HondaLink, satellite radio, and a six-speaker stereo. Other options include navigation, HD Radio, push-button start, and a moonroof.

The infotainment system is relatively straightforward, and there are handy knobs for audio and climate settings, but some rival systems are more intuitive.

Though it comes with few standard driver assistance features, many are available. They include forward collision warning, a collision mitigation braking system, road departure mitigation, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot monitoring. That’s an impressive list for a small car.

  • "The Fit's chunky temp knobs and cabin controls are well-placed and easy to use. The 7-inch touchscreen interface isn't the most intuitive, but Android Auto and Apple CarPlay help." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "Addressing two of our chief complaints is a new 7.0-inch Display Audio infotainment system that comes standard on Sport, EX, and EX-L models. Finally, it offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and even better, the volume knob is back." -- Car and Driver (2018)
  • "A new infotainment system debuts for 2018. Standard in Sport, EX, and EX-L trims, the Display Audio system gains a volume knob as well as smartphone projection support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Improved graphics are also a part of the upgrade for 2018. Too bad Honda continues to offer LaneWatch in the freshened Fit, instead of a proper blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alert." -- New York Daily News (2018)

With 16.6 cubic feet of space, the Fit has more cargo room than many subcompact cars. Folding down the second row opens a maximum cargo capacity of 52.7 cubic feet. The Fit's standard Magic Seat lets you fold or recline the rear seat in several configurations. You can fold the front passenger seat to haul longer items, or you can recline the rear seat and fold the front seat to create a makeshift bed. The seat bottoms also fold up to carry tall items.

  • "That split bench can fold flat—forming an uninterrupted surface from the rear bumper to just behind the front seats—or can flip its bottom cushion up and into a vertical position, allowing tall, wide items to be loaded through the side doors and set across the rear footwells. The result is unmatched configurability that is bolstered by the boxy Fit's cavernous interior and cargo volumes." -- Car and Driver
  • "And then there's the clever Magic Seat, which splits 60/40 and folds in ways to let the owner carry a bicycle or even a surfboard." -- Kelley Blue Book (2019)
  • "The ingenious back seat allows for many loading options, and it folds flat to create a surprisingly large maximum cargo area. The seat bottom flips up for tall, upright items. The Fit is unrivaled in its class in this category." -- Edmunds (2019)
