2013 Honda CR-Z Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2013 Honda CR-Z was new.

Interior: 7.5

Reviewers note that the 2013 Honda CR-Z has a futuristic cabin design, which features a combination of digital and analog gauges. One test driver also writes that the CR-Z’s interior is slightly better than those found in some other Honda products, since soft-touch materials and metallic trim give it a premium feel.

  • "The interior's most notable feature is its space-age dash design, which is built around a large digital speedometer surrounded by an equally prominent analog tachometer. Adding a wow factor are background lights that change color to indicate driving style efficiency." -- Edmunds
  • "Where all hybrid cars have additional gauges and playful readouts to make them appear more futuristic, the 2013 Honda CR-Z hybrid's cockpit looks like something from a pseudo-sci-fi film." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The interior is an interesting blend of shapes and textures. The overall ambiance is sporty and modern, with the chrome-finish door handles lending a bit of class." -- Consumer Guide (2012)
  • "Interior surfaces are a notch above those in other budget Honda models, with the hard plastic surfaces softened to the touch by a rubbery coating. A unique new process infuses tin into the plastic door handles lending the bargain-basement material the expensive modern appearance of nickel-plated plumbing fixtures." -- MSNBC (2011)

Test drivers say that the 2013 CR-Z offers two comfortable seats with good head- and legroom. However, one reviewer says that some shoppers may not like the CR-Z’s upholstery, while others note that rearward visibility isn’t as good as they would like. A backup camera is now standard though, which makes rearward visibility less problematic, according to one reviewer.

  • "It's also important to note that rear visibility is problematic through the dual-panel rear glass and the bodywork that surrounds it. The newly standard rearview camera, however, goes a long way toward easing anxiety during backing maneuvers." -- Edmunds
  • "As for comfort, the sport seats are nicely bolstered and very comfortable, but the shiny silver fabric covering them may not be to everyone's liking." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Most adults will have sufficient headroom and legroom. Be careful when raising the seat bottoms, as your head can brush the headliner in fairly short order." -- Consumer Guide (2012)
  • "Visibility to the front and sides is good, but out the rear is a problem." -- Chicago Tribune (2011)

Interior Features

The 2013 Honda CR-Z comes standard with a backup camera, cruise control, automatic climate control, Bluetooth and a six-speaker stereo with a USB port. Options and features available on the EX trim include an upgraded stereo and a navigation system.

Test drivers write that the 2013 CR-Z has user-friendly climate controls, as well as a customizable display that offers helpful vehicle information. However, one critic also notes that the optional navigation system makes it more difficult to access some audio settings.

  • "A configurable display allows you to call up other useful information, including instant and average fuel economy readings." -- Edmunds
  • "We particularly like the placement of the climate controls, which reside just to the right of the steering wheel." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The climate controls are convenient and simple. The navigation system is the same as that in the Fit and Honda Civic. It absorbs audio functions, which complicates some adjustments." -- Consumer Guide (2012)

The CR-Z has 25.1 cubic feet of space for cargo, which is good for a small coupe, but still less than what most hatchbacks offer. One reviewer notes that the CR-Z’s cargo area is a little shallow, while another notes that the glove compartment’s deep-set location makes it difficult to reach.

  • "Not as spacious as most hatchbacks. The cargo area is on the shallow side." -- Consumer Guide (2012)
  • “There's a glove compartment, but it's tucked far under the dashboard and is hard to access even from the passenger seat." -- Chicago Tribune (2011)
