2021 Honda CR-V Interior Review

Interior: 8.3

The 2021 Honda CR-V has a refined and upscale cabin along with plenty of passenger and cargo space. Its most notable downside is a troublesome infotainment system.

  • "A stylish and spacious interior creates a cool and comfortable environment in the CR-V. Quality materials and a familiar layout combine for a contemporary look and feel. A tasteful balance of faux-wood accents, chromed plastic, and brushed-satin finishes looked particularly upscale." -- Car and Driver
  • "The CR-V provides a tasteful, if a tad dull, design aesthetic backed up with above-average materials and build construction for this segment." -- Autoblog (2020)
  • "Interior material quality is also strong -- compared to both its predecessor and its competitors." -- Autotrader (2020)

Cargo Space

The Honda CR-V has 39.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seats and 75.8 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. Those measurements are among the best in the compact SUV class, and the low cargo floor makes it easy to lift in items. Both a power liftgate and a hands-free liftgate are optional.

  • "The CR-V’s abundant cargo capacity and clever front center console make it a stuff-carrying champ." -- Autotrader
  • "Leading its class in cargo volume and luggage space, the CR-V not only earns high marks in those subjects, but also by way of its inclusion of user-friendly and useful equipment. We managed to fit 10 carry-on suitcases behind the rear seat, which matched the CX-5 and the Ford Escape. Fold the back seat flat, and the Honda offers best-in-class luggage space." -- Car and Driver
  • "Behind that back seat is a large and versatile cargo area (39.2 cubic feet) with one of the lowest, most easily loaded cargo floors in the segment. That's good news if you'll be lifting a big, heavy stroller, or the dog needs to jump aboard." -- Autoblog (2020)

The five-seat Honda CR-V comes standard with cloth upholstery and a six-way manually adjustable driver's seat. Optional features include leather upholstery, heated front seats, a 12-way power-adjustable driver's seat, a four-way power-adjustable passenger seat, driver's seat memory settings, and a heated steering wheel.

The CR-V's front seats are comfortable and accommodating, and the second-row seats are among the roomiest in the class.

For installing child safety seats, there are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats. The rear middle seat has a tether anchor and a lower anchor, and it can borrow a lower anchor from the driver's side seat.

The outboard tether anchors are easy to find, but the middle tether is more difficult to locate. Additionally, you may confuse other seat hardware for the top anchors. It requires some force to attach the car-seat straps to the lower anchors.

  • "As for your passengers, they will enjoy unmatched interior comfort and space for this segment. Rear legroom is top of class, and there are LATCH points in all three rear seating positions, making for an extremely family-friendly SUV." -- Autotrader
  • "Supportive and nicely sculpted front seats hug their occupants in all the right places." -- Car and Driver
  • "Up front is the CR-V’s familiar and enviable seating position that is comfortable and provides a good view out. This stuff may sound mundane, but trust us – over years of driving, it adds up daily appreciation." -- Kelley Blue Book

Interior Features

Standard features in the 2021 CR-V include automatic climate control, a 5-inch audio display, a four-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, and a USB port. A 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, HD Radio, an additional front USB port, and two rear USB ports is optional.

The CR-V's standard infotainment offerings are bare bones, while the upgraded infotainment system receives demerits for its lack of physical controls and less-than-intuitive menus.

Other optional features include dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, remote start, proximity keyless entry, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, an eight-speaker stereo, a universal garage door opener, wireless device charging, navigation, a nine-speaker premium stereo, and interior ambient lighting.

Standard driver assistance features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rearview camera. The CR-V is available with front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

  • "If there’s a downside inside, it’s the touchscreen found in all but the base LX. It’s perfectly functional, but its responsiveness, menu structure, and touch-sensitive menu buttons add up to a system that’s less user-friendly than Honda’s latest system (Accord, Odyssey) and those of competitors (Subaru Forester, Toyota RAV4)." -- Autotrader
  • "An otherwise excellent presentation is offset by Honda’s frustrating infotainment system. … A lack of other controls, slow infotainment responses, and the absence of an auxiliary input can’t be forgiven." -- Car and Driver
  • "… a seven-inch touchscreen … isn't the CR-V's strongest element due to frequent glitches, iffy responses, lack of physical menu buttons, and an occasionally confusing menu structure. Honda's newer interface found in the Odyssey and Accord corrects these issues and rival systems, particularly the Subaru Forester and Toyota RAV4, offer comparable features with a more user-friendly interface." -- Autoblog (2020)
