2019 Honda CR-V Interior Review

Interior: 8.8

The 2019 Honda CR-V’s attractive cabin features quality materials, adult-friendly seating in both rows, and tons of cargo space. The bare-bones base trim is lacking when it comes to infotainment technology, however.

  • "Interior material quality is also impressive -- both compared to its predecessor and competitors -- while the CR-V's touchscreen interface is more user-friendly than that of the Civic." -- Autotrader (2018)
  • "Flowing interior panels and trim inserts show generally convincing quality, as does the leather adorning the seats and steering wheel (EX-L and Touring trim levels). A well-built vehicle in every respect." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "Only the most hedonistic individuals could complain about the interior, which is completely restyled with improved materials and the most modern technology Honda has to offer." -- Truck Trend (2017)

Up to five people can fit into the 2019 CR-V. Cloth upholstery comes standard, and leather-trimmed upholstery is available. You can also opt for a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, heated front seats, a 12-way power-adjustable driver's seat with four-way lumbar support, and a four-way power-adjustable driver's seat. Both rows of seats are spacious and comfortable.

For securing child safety seats, the CR-V has two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats, as well as an upper tether and a lower anchor for the rear middle seat. The middle seat has the ability to borrow a lower anchor from an adjoining seat. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the setup the second-highest rating of Acceptable for ease of use.

  • "As noted, the 2019 CR-V's 2-row/5-passenger interior space is one of its best attributes -- an impressive feat given that the previous generation was already among the most spacious in its class. In addition to its growth, the latest CR-V’s space is easy to utilize." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Passenger space is also superior, with more than enough room for four adults (including better driver seat adjustment) and LATCH points in all rear seating positions for child seats." -- Autotrader (2018)
  • "Never mind the compact part of this SUV's class. Interior dimensions are generally larger than those of rivals, with exception of front head- and legroom, which are by no means tight. Rear seating space is the biggest you'll find in a small SUV. Four full-size adults will fit with zero problems." -- Edmunds (2018)

Interior Features

Standard features include a 5-inch audio display screen, Bluetooth, a USB port, four speakers, and a rearview camera. All models except the base LX come with a touch-screen infotainment system, which includes a 7-inch display, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, six speakers, three USB ports, satellite radio, and HD Radio. The touch controls can be a bit too sensitive, but the accompanying physical controls make the system fairly easy to use while on the go.

Other available features include a moonroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, and navigation. Safety options include automatic high beams, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, rear parking sensors, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.

  • "… [T]he CR-V's touchscreen interface is more user-friendly than that of the Civic. It doesn't have quite the same functionality of the Accord or Odyssey's newer systems, but it's perfectly functional and includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto." -- Autotrader (2018)
  • "The physical controls are very intuitive, but the touch-sensitive buttons can be annoying. Some on-screen buttons are small, and it's too easy to graze the touch-sensitive volume control on the steering wheel." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "Our test model's large touch screen was nice to look at and reasonably simple to use.” -- Left Lane News (2017)

The CR-V has 39.2 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats upright and 75.8 cubic feet of cargo space when the back row is folded down. Those are outstanding estimates in the class and well above the estimates of most of its rivals. A power liftgate and a hands-free power liftgate are also available.

  • "Honda has a way of maximizing interior space and the 2019 CR-V is no exception. Its 40.4 inches of rear-seat legroom bests that of the Ford Escape and Mazda CX-5, while the nearly 40 cubic feet of cargo room handily beats just about every other compact SUV, the Toyota RAV4 and Nissan Rogue being the only two exceptions." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The CR-V is a master of practicality. From its enormous and multiconfigurable storage capacity to its many clever compartments, this Honda makes you question if a larger SUV is necessary. " -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "If you loved it before, you'll really love it now. However, if you're new to the CR-V or compact SUVs in general, know that this Honda's prime claim to fame is space. There's more cargo capacity than anything else in the segment, and besides boasting a lot of cubic feet, it makes accessing that space easier. The load height is low, the back seats are lowered by pulling handles in the cargo area, and the front center console is ingeniously designed to stow your various on-the-road items." -- Autotrader (2018)
