2018 Honda Civic Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 8.2

The 2018 Honda Civic’s nicely arranged cabin is filled with high-quality materials. Both rows of seats have adequate room for both the driver and passengers, though taller occupants may prefer more headroom in the rear seats. Also, a poorly functioning optional infotainment system plagues this compact car.

  • "The 2018 Civic's interior is full of premium materials and top-notch plastics." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Construction is tight and solid inside and out, so even though there's quite a bit of plastic around the cabin, everything feels well-built. On higher trims a number of surfaces, especially major touch points, are covered in higher-quality materials, which elevate the interior feel." -- Edmunds
  • "Particular attention has been paid to material selection inside the Civic. Cloth seats get contrasting panels, and there's a leather package with visible stitching available in the upper trim." -- Autotrader (2016)

Seating

The Civic seats five on standard cloth upholstery. Leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, and power-adjustable front seats are available. The front-row seats offer plenty of room for the driver and passenger. The rear seats’ headroom might be too snug for taller passengers, but it should accommodate most riders. Both rows of seats are comfortable and supportive.

  • The Civic is spacious up front, offering plenty of headroom even with the sunroof. In the back, a 6-foot-tall rear passenger will have sufficient legroom behind a like-heighted driver but will wish for more headroom." -- Edmunds
  • "The Civic boasts some of the best interior volume among compact cars. Rear-seat legroom is impressive in the sedan, but beware of the wide sills when entering and exiting." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • Rear seat legroom is more than acceptable, even for passengers in the six foot range, although the hatch's sloping rear does compromise headroom for taller folk." -- Automobile Magazine (2017)

Interior Features

The 2018 Civic comes standard with a decent amount of features: a rearview camera, Bluetooth, a 5-inch display screen, and a USB port. Available features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, HD Radio, an upgraded audio system, a 7-inch touch screen, an additional USB port, a navigation system, dual-zone climate control, push-button start, and a moonroof.

The Civic offers many more active safety features by way of the optional Honda Sensing system. It includes forward collision warning, lane departure warning, collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. Honda LaneWatch – a blind spot monitoring system – is also available.

The Civic's optional infotainment system has touchy controls that can be frustrating to operate while driving. Luckily, there are audio controls on the steering wheel and redundant knobs and buttons on the control panel for adjusting climate settings.

  • "Tech is one of the Civic's weaknesses. The infotainment system is one of the more difficult to use, and were it not for the inclusion of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it could be a deal-breaker." -- Edmunds
  • "Ergonomics is a volume knob shy of perfection, as using the new Honda Civic's touch screen to crank up the Taylor Swift can be frustrating and distracting." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "We found Honda's infotainment system to be unintuitive--the only way to avoid it is to get the base LX." -- Consumer Reports

Cargo

With about 15 cubic feet, the 2018 Honda Civic sedan has abundant trunk space. The Civic coupe has about 12 cubic feet of space. If you’re looking for as much storage space as you can get, you’ll want the hatchback. It has 25.7 cubic feet of cargo space, and folding down the seats increases the capacity to 46.2 cubic feet.

  • "At 15.1 cubic feet, the Civic sedan's trunk is huge. Hatchback Civics boast 25.7 cubic feet of space with the rear seats up and some 20 additional cubic feet with them down." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Inside, it has plenty of room for passengers, clever storage solutions and more cargo space than most competitors in any body style."-- Edmunds
  • "… the interior has a lot of storage space." – Consumer Reports
