2019 Honda Accord Interior Review

Interior: 7.9

Those looking for a comfortable and accommodating interior will find it in the 2019 Honda Accord. This midsize car offers high-quality interior materials, numerous standard safety features, and plenty of cabin space. There are some hard plastics present, however, and taller passengers may long for additional rear-seat headroom.

  • "Material selection and build quality are top-notch, with nicely grained plastics, soft leather, and even convincing faux-wood trim (just don't touch, as there's no texture to match the open-pore appearance). The three climate-control dials that adjust temperature and fan speed remind us of Audi knobs, both in their design and in the way they satisfyingly click through their motions." -- Car and Driver (2018)
  • "The richness of the interior materials, the Audi-esque feel of the switchgear, and the open airiness afforded by the thinner A-pillars and dramatically lowered instrument panel mass hark back to the days of the go-kart-like Hondas." -- Motor Trend (2018)
  • "Cabin quality takes two steps forward and one step back. Soft-touch materials cover the upper doors and armrests up front, and stitched padding girds the center console on higher trim levels. Many controls have elegant two-tone detailing, and none felt rickety in my preproduction test cars. But ribbons of cheap, shiny plastic span mid-level areas on the doors and dash, and the rear doors revert to cheaper materials – an area where many competitors and the prior Accord maintain better consistency." -- (2018)

The Accord seats five people. Cloth upholstery is standard, and leather-trimmed seats, power-adjustable front seats, and heated seats are available. Overall, the cabin has lots of space. Average-sized occupants should have enough room to stretch out in both the first and second rows. Taller passengers may have some reservations about rear-seat headroom, but rear-seat legroom is plentiful. The Accord's low seating position may not appeal to everyone.

The Accord features two sets of LATCH car-seat connectors on the rear outboard seats and an upper tether on the rear middle seat. The middle seat can borrow lower anchors from the adjoining seats when they're not in use.

  • "The 2019 Honda Accord’s 5-passenger interior is roomier than you might expect, especially in rear-seat legroom." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "There is plenty of headroom and elbow room up front, plus wide and comfortable seats including four-way lumbar adjustment on the Touring version. Slide into the rear seat and you're greeted with abundant legroom, though headroom is a bit limited, which could make it feel confining for taller folks." -- Consumer Reports (2018)
  • "Our ear also tells us that the new car's cabin is more hushed than before." -- Car and Driver (2018)

Interior Features

Standard features include collision mitigation braking, lane keep assist, a rearview camera, driver drowsiness monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, traffic sign recognition, and an infotainment system with a 7-inch display screen, Bluetooth, a four-speaker stereo, and a USB port.

Available features include an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 10-speaker premium audio system, a wireless phone charger, mobile hot spot capability, navigation, voice recognition, HD Radio, satellite radio, a moonroof, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and a head-up display.

Critics praise the standard infotainment system. Both the standard display screen and optional touch screen are easy to navigate, and redundant physical buttons make it easy to adjust stereo and climate controls.

  • "Up front, the dash is anchored by a color display -- a lower-res 7-inch screen in base models or a high-res 8-inch touch screen in the rest of the lineup. Those aggravated by some recent Hondas will be happy to know that the new Accord has a volume knob, plus a separate one for tuning. Climate settings are also easy to see and change thanks to additional knobs below." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The Accord's dashboard is simple and low-set, with a tabletlike multimedia system and prominent knobs for the climate and stereo controls. Speaking of which, sanity has prevailed at Honda: The Accord gets physical stereo buttons plus volume and tuning knobs instead of the aggravating touch-sensitive controls on many versions of the old car. The touchscreen itself (a 7-inch unit on LX models or an 8-incher with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto everywhere else) has intuitive menus and quick response, with tiled apps on the home screen that you can customize as on a smartphone. Honda needs to spread this across its other cars pronto." -- (2018)
  • "If you do end up drawing your eyes away from the road for too long, there are numerous active-safety features to help save your bacon. The Honda Sensing package—composed of key systems such as adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-keeping assist—is now standard on every Accord. Yes, that even includes manual-transmission cars, which must forego only the low-speed-follow functionality of the adaptive cruise control compared with their automatic-equipped brethren." -- Car and Driver (2018)

You'll find 16.7 cubic feet of trunk space in the Accord, which is an above-average capacity for the class. The trunk's narrow opening may make it difficult to load larger items, however.

  • "The trunk is spacious at 16.7 cubic feet, including hybrid models." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The trunk is bigger as well, but with the bottom edge of the rear window dragged so far rearward, the opening is rather small—it may be time for Honda to follow Buick's lead and turn the Accord into a liftback." -- Automobile Magazine (2018)
  • "The aforementioned increase in wheelbase has bumped interior volume by 2.4 cubic feet (now at 105.6 cubic feet). Rear legroom grows by 1.9 inches and the car's hatchback design added another .9 cubic feet of cargo space (now at 16.7 cubic feet). For reference purposes, all three numbers beat the equivalent measurements in the … 2018 Toyota Camry." -- Forbes (2017)
