The 2009 Accord offers the most spacious cabin Honda has yet built. In fact, the EPA now classifies the Accord as a full-size car, though it competes with midsize cars in the minds of most buyers. Reviewers praise the supportive seats and high-quality materials. The electronic interfaces of the Accord, however, are not as universally admired.

The newest Accord offers more head-, leg- and hip-room in both front and back than ever before. Its rear seats, in particular, measure out as roomier than most rivals. The Accords seats are also firmer and better bolstered than past editions, but reviewers say they are still comfortable on long trips.

Interior Features

Honda's famous build quality is here, exceeding most rivals in fit and finish. The 2009 Accord borrows some features from Honda's luxury Acura division, and reviewers say the ergonomic layout is intuitive. 

  • "With just over 6000 miles on the odometer, the Accord is quickly racking up comments in the logbook. Most postings praise the larger, more comfortable interior, while others lament the dash's busy and confusing center stack, whose sea of gray buttons is proving frustrating to our editors." -- Motor Trend
  • "Filters on the liquid-crystal display (LCD) readouts make them -- finally -- legible rather than invisible to people who wear polarized sunglasses. Cut glare, too." -- USA Today
  • "The center stack looks sophisticated, but it's overly cluttered with identical-looking buttons, in contrast to the user-friendly layouts in past Accords." -- Edmunds


Last year, Honda dropped its touchscreen navigation system in favor of a nav screen operated by with a rotary knob positioned in the middle of the dashboard. Not all reviewers are happy with the change.

  • "The optional navigation system boosts the button tally further, but its voice commands, high-mounted screen and multipurpose knob are at least user-friendly." -- Edmunds
  • "So foul were the oaths muttered by some about the seemingly arbitrarily arranged spread of buttons on the center console, you'd think we were talking about BMW's iDrive system." -- Motor Trend

One disappointment in the new redesign is that, while passenger space has grown, cargo space has not. The Accord's trunk is smaller than some rivals, and features a smaller opening. The rear seats on most models fold down as a single piece, not in a 60/40 split pattern like those on most midsize cars today.  EX-L models do offer a 60/40 split rear seat, but many reviewers say those seats don't fold perfectly flat.

  • "Two-tier cubby in the cabinet between the console and dashboard is well-designed to hold phones or other items that otherwise would occupy the cup holder.
