2020 Honda Accord Hybrid Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 7.8

The 2020 Honda Accord Hybrid has a couple of cheap plastic surfaces inside, but overall its cabin features quality materials. The seats are spacious and supportive, and trunk space is good for the segment. The infotainment controls are easy to use.

  • "Cabin quality takes two steps forward and one step back. Soft-touch materials cover the upper doors and armrests up front, and stitched padding girds the center console on higher trim levels. Many controls have elegant two-tone detailing, and none felt rickety. … But ribbons of cheap, shiny plastic span mid-level areas on the doors and dash, and the rear doors revert to cheaper materials – an area where many competitors and the prior Accord maintain better consistency." -- Cars.com (2018)
  • "Inside, the new Honda Accord manages to pack more refinement, more features and even more room into a sedan that's actually a little shorter than the model it replaces. The design is familiar but elevated, thanks in part to a more liberal application of high-quality materials." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "Plus, with an 8-inch floating infotainment screen and nice, buttoned down interior, it feels nicer than a vehicle that starts at less than $24,000." -- New York Daily News (2018)

Seating

The Honda Accord Hybrid can seat up to five people. Cloth seats are standard, and leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a heated steering wheel are available.

Thanks to an abundance of head- and legroom, most adults should have ample space in both rows. However, the low-mounted seats leave taller rear-seat occupants feeling like their knees are too elevated.

For securing child safety seats, there are complete sets of LATCH connectors for the second-row outboard seats.

  • "The 2020 Honda Accord’s 5-passenger interior is roomier than you might expect, especially in rear-seat legroom." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Thanks to an increase in wheelbase and a back seat that nestles deep into the C-pillar, the 2018 Accord offers an absurd amount of rear-seat legroom … and a decent level of headroom considering the swooping roofline." -- Automobile Magazine (2018)
  • "It's all part of a hunkered-down stance that translates into a slightly lower seating position for both rows. Some may not like the driving position, which feels distinctly lower than many rivals – the Camry in particular – even when you raise the driver's seat. The passenger gets no such provision; the Accord is overdue for a passenger height adjustment. The same situation goes for the backseat, which has abundant legroom but sits low to the floor. Adult passengers may find their knees uncomfortably elevated – a characteristic common in this class." -- Cars.com (2018)

Interior Features

This Honda sedan comes with a 7-inch infotainment display, a USB port, Bluetooth, a four-speaker stereo, push-button start, remote start, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

Available equipment includes an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, a Wi-Fi hot spot, wireless device charging, a second USB port, a pair of charge-only USB ports for the second row, satellite radio, HD Radio, and an 8- or 10-speaker stereo.

This Honda has an easy-to-use infotainment system, thanks in part to its physical buttons and knobs. The available touch screen is responsive as well.

Standard safety features include a collision mitigation braking system, traffic sign recognition, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, a rearview camera, and adaptive cruise control. Available driver aids include front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and a head-up display.

  • "Up front, the dash is anchored by a color display -- a lower-res 7-inch screen in base models or a high-res 8-inch touch screen in the rest of the lineup. Those aggravated by some recent Hondas will be happy to know that the latest Accord has a volume knob, plus a separate one for tuning. Climate settings are also easy to see and change thanks to additional knobs below." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The Accord's dashboard is simple and low-set, with a tabletlike multimedia system and prominent knobs for the climate and stereo controls. Speaking of which, sanity has prevailed at Honda: The Accord gets physical stereo buttons plus volume and tuning knobs instead of the aggravating touch-sensitive controls on many versions of the old car. The touchscreen itself … has intuitive menus and quick response, with tiled apps on the home screen that you can customize as on a smartphone." -- Cars.com (2018)
  • "Climate controls have been simplified and the stereo finally has freakin' dials—two of them, even; one for volume and one for tuning. … The stand-up display stereo also gets accessory buttons for common functions, and while Honda's graphical infotainment interface still trails the best in the biz, it's getting better." -- Automobile Magazine (2018)

Cargo

Hybrids tend to have smaller trunks than their nonhybrid counterparts, but the Accord Hybrid matches the nonhybrid Accord with 16.7 cubic feet of space. That’s a good amount of room in the hybrid and electric car class, but the Accord Hybrid's narrow opening can make loading cargo a bit tricky.

  • "In the Accord Hybrid, you’ll find no deviation in interior room or trunk space to accommodate the hybrid batteries. There’s even a split-folding rear seat." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The trunk is bigger as well, but with the bottom edge of the rear window dragged so far rearward, the opening is rather small." -- Automobile Magazine (2018)
  • "The new, smaller lithium-ion battery pack now disappears into the structure of the car, meaning exactly the same 16.7 cubic feet of trunk space as the normal sedan. … And, with the batteries situated beneath the seats, the Hybrid also gets the same 60/40 split rear seatback." -- CNET (2018)
