2019 Honda Accord Hybrid Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid was new.

Interior: 8.2

The 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid gets dinged slightly for using some hard, shiny plastics in its cabin, but most surfaces feature quality materials that give the cabin a nice look and feel. Both rows of seats are spacious and supportive, and the trunk is large compared to class rivals'. There's a lot of technology, including many driver assistance features.

  • "Cabin quality takes two steps forward and one step back. Soft-touch materials cover the upper doors and armrests up front, and stitched padding girds the center console on higher trim levels. Many controls have elegant two-tone detailing, and none felt rickety. … But ribbons of cheap, shiny plastic span mid-level areas on the doors and dash, and the rear doors revert to cheaper materials – an area where many competitors and the prior Accord maintain better consistency." -- Cars.com (2018)
  • "Inside, the new Honda Accord manages to pack more refinement, more features and even more room into a sedan that's actually a little shorter than the model it replaces. The design is familiar but elevated, thanks in part to a more liberal application of high-quality materials." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "Plus, with an 8-inch floating infotainment screen and nice, buttoned down interior, it feels nicer than a vehicle that starts at less than $24,000." -- New York Daily News (2018)

The Accord Hybrid seats five and comes with cloth upholstery. Leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, power-adjustable front seats, and heated rear seats are available. There are two full sets of LATCH connectors for installing car seats. All of the tether and lower anchors are easy to find and use, making it easy to install child safety seats.

The front seats provide all-day support, and they're comfortable. The only knock against them is their low position, which some occupants may not like. The rear seats are cavernous, providing plenty of head- and legroom, even for tall people.

  • "Thanks to an increase in wheelbase and a back seat that nestles deep into the C-pillar, the 2018 Accord offers an absurd amount of rear-seat legroom … and a decent level of headroom considering the swooping roofline." -- Automobile Magazine (2018)
  • "In our extended highway evaluations the cabin remained quiet and we found the driver's seat comfortably supportive." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "It's all part of a hunkered-down stance that translates into a slightly lower seating position for both rows. Some may not like the driving position, which feels distinctly lower than many rivals – the Camry in particular – even when you raise the driver's seat. The passenger gets no such provision; the Accord is overdue for a passenger height adjustment. The same situation goes for the backseat, which has abundant legroom but sits low to the floor. Adult passengers may find their knees uncomfortably elevated – a characteristic common in this class." -- Cars.com (2018)

Interior Features

Standard features in the Accord Hybrid include dual-zone automatic climate control and an infotainment system with a four-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, a USB port, and a 7-inch display screen. Available features include a moonroof, wireless device charging, and an upgraded infotainment system with an 8-inch touch screen, navigation, an additional USB port, satellite radio, HD Radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an eight-speaker audio system or a 10-speaker premium audio system.

Standard active safety features include a rearview camera, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, forward collision warning, and collision mitigation braking. Some of these features are part of the Honda Sensing suite. Available driver assistance features include a head-up display, blind spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and rear cross traffic alert.

The infotainment system features physical controls for some audio and climate functions, which makes it easy to adjust the settings. The touch screen works well also; it responds quickly to inputs and has intuitive menu layouts. You can even customize the icon layouts to your liking.

  • "The Accord's dashboard is simple and low-set, with a tabletlike multimedia system and prominent knobs for the climate and stereo controls. Speaking of which, sanity has prevailed at Honda: The Accord gets physical stereo buttons plus volume and tuning knobs instead of the aggravating touch-sensitive controls on many versions of the old car. The touchscreen itself … has intuitive menus and quick response, with tiled apps on the home screen that you can customize as on a smartphone." -- Cars.com (2018)
  • "The driving-assist features are numerous and excellent. And the robust infotainment system is our new favorite in the segment." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "The previous Accord's ridiculous dual-screen dashboard has been tossed into the dumpster, where it belongs. Replacing it is a dash that is smooth and sleek and modern. Climate controls have been simplified and the stereo finally has freakin' dials—two of them, even; one for volume and one for tuning. … The stand-up display stereo also gets accessory buttons for common functions, and while Honda's graphical infotainment interface still trails the best in the biz, it's getting better." -- Automobile Magazine (2018)

The Accord Hybrid is rare in the sense that it offers just as much trunk space as the nonhybrid Accord – 16.7 cubic feet, which is a great total for this class. Most hybrids offer less space than nonhybrid sedans because the battery eats up room, but the Accord Hybrid's battery is under the rear seats, leaving the trunk wide open. The split-folding rear seats let you haul bigger items, but a narrow trunk opening limits what you can fit into the car.

  • "The trunk is bigger as well, but with the bottom edge of the rear window dragged so far rearward, the opening is rather small." -- Automobile Magazine (2018)
  • "While the outgoing model's trunk space was compromised by the battery, the new model features a full-size trunk expandable into the cabin via 60/40 split rear seat backs. The Accord Hybrid's biggest shortcoming has been solved." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "The new, smaller lithium-ion battery pack now disappears into the structure of the car, meaning exactly the same 16.7 cubic feet of trunk space as the normal sedan. … And, with the batteries situated beneath the seats, the Hybrid also gets the same 60/40 split rear seatback." -- CNET (2018)
