Head to Head Comparison: 2016 Toyota Corolla vs. 2016 Ford Focus

1 of 10

The Basics

Both the 2016 Toyota Corolla and the 2016 Ford Focus seat five. Both are available as sedans, and the Focus is also available as a hatchback. The Corolla was last redesigned in 2014 and has since had no drastic changes. The Focus had a refresh in 2015 but hasn’t been redesigned since the 2012 model.

Overall scores for the vehicles are very close (less than half a point difference), but differ within categories. Buyers should be aware of rankings in each category, to assure that they make the best choice.

Also, keep in mind that Toyota plans to release a special edition 50th Anniversary 2017 Corolla this fall, and the next Focus model, while not confirmed by Ford, may hit markets sometime near the middle of next year. The new Corolla shows updated looks and tech but will not be a new vehicle mechanically. A full redesign will not happen for Ford until the 2018 model year.

So, unless your next car purchase is quite far off, the 2016 models make the most sense at this point in time. Read on to see how these compact cars stack up.
