Head to Head: 2016 Chevrolet Colorado vs. 2016 Toyota Tacoma

2 of 13

The Basics

The 2016 Chevrolet Colorado has some of the best fuel economy in the compact pickup segment. Buyers have a choice of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine or a 3.6-liter V6. New for 2016, a 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel version gets excellent gas mileage and top-notch towing ability for its class. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but four-wheel drive is available.

The 2016 Toyota Tacoma also comes with a choice of two engines: A 2.7-liter four-cylinder or a 3.5-liter V6. Like the Colorado, it comes standard with rear-wheel drive and has an option for four-wheel drive. Significantly, the Tacoma has one of the highest predicted reliability ratings in its class – but the Colorado ties it.
