Check Out the Best Vehicles for Parents With Three Kids in Car Seats
When you’re a parent, trying to fit three car seats into a vehicle can be a chore. Even the best vehicles on the market can fail to provide three full sets of LATCH child seat connections. Instead, many have two sets of LATCH connectors on outboard seats, but only provide a tether for the middle seat.
Only a few vehicles on the market today offer three full sets of LATCH connectors in one row, including the Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Charger, and Buick Envision. Many, like the Honda Pilot, Nissan Pathfinder, and Chevrolet Traverse deliver full sets of LATCH connectors in multiple rows of seating, but don’t have three full connections in a single row.
Often, the number of LATCH connections in a vehicle varies by the seating configuration you choose. Many 3-row minivans and SUVs come in either seven- or eight-seat configurations. Choosing the lesser seating amount frequently means that there are captain’s chairs in the second row rather than a bench seat, giving you one less LATCH connection.
The average car seat is 15 to 20 inches wide so the best vehicles for seating three child seats across have at least 45 inches of hip and shoulder room, though 60 or more inches is preferrable.
Read on to find out which vehicles fit three car seats across.
