2012 GMC Yukon Hybrid Review

The GMC Yukon Hybrid gets great fuel economy for the class and has a composed ride, but it can't tow as much as its gas-only counterpart and reviewers disliked that its third-row seats must be removed to expand the cargo area.

2012 GMC Yukon Hybrid Overview

The 2012 GMC Yukon Hybrid comes with a V8 engine and an electrically variable transmission that houses a pair of electric motors. Most reviewers said the Yukon Hybrid has ample power, and some added that it has a polished transition between electric and gas power. At an estimated 20/23 mpg city/highway with either rear- or four-wheel drive, the 2012 Yukon Hybrid's fuel economy is excellent for the class. The Yukon Hybrid's handling is generally composed and it rides comfortably, automotive writers said. They added that its regenerative brakes operate smoothly, which isn't always the case with regenerative braking systems. The 2012 Yukon Hybrid can tow up to 6,200 pounds, which is one of the lowest ratings in the class.

Reviewers liked the GMC Yukon Hybrid's handsome interior and top-notch materials. It can seat up to eight people and comes standard with leather upholstery. Test drivers said the GMC Yukon Hybrid’s first- and second-row seats are comfortable for adults. They complained that the third-row seats are hard to access and are not very spacious. Navigation, a USB port, Bluetooth, tri-zone automatic climate control and a rearview camera come standard on the GMC Yukon Hybrid. A power sunroof and a rear-seat entertainment system are available. Test drivers said that, in general, the Yukon Hybrid's navigation system is straightforward. The 2012 GMC Yukon Hybrid can hold up to 108.9 cubic feet of cargo, which is normal for the class, though some rivals can carry more. Reviewers disliked that the Yukon Hybrid's seats must be removed to maximize cargo space, and added that the seats are heavy and hard to move.

The 2012 Chevrolet Suburban has greater cargo capacity than the Yukon Hybrid, and while it can't match the Yukon Hybrid's fuel economy rating, it still gets decent fuel economy for the class.
